Carson City Fire Department and sheriff's deputies were called late Tuesday morning to a two-vehicle crash near the intersection of Highway 50 East and Centennial Drive.

A new Arby's location is being built in Carson City on Highway 50 E., and construction is already underway for what will become the second location of the fast-food chain in the capital city.

Drift smoke is possible Tuesday around Western Nevada, the Carson City region and Lake Tahoe due to the Washburn Fire in Yosemite. Smoke from the fire is expected into the region later today, according to the National Weather Service.

Recently, Carson City's Mayor's Park received several new benches and a beautiful new informational kiosk that were all funded by former Mayor Ray Masayko.

There are only a few more weeks to come into Nevada Artists Association Gallery in Carson City and see some of the beautiful works of art from the show "Spirit of America." We also want to share that a new show will be coming up on July 30 called "The Summer Show."

This will be a judged show and I can't wait to see all the wonderful pieces of art that will be coming into the gallery for that show.

MINDEN — On July 7, and July 8, 2022, investigators from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Reno Police Department’s Human Exploitation and Trafficking team along with the Federal Bureau of Investigations conducted a human trafficking operation in the Stateline, Nevada area at Lake Tahoe.

Northern Nevada is famous for its beautiful outdoors, including Lake Tahoe and an abundance of camping sites and trails to explore. But the outdoor recreation that is a cultural staple for the region may be cut short by another summer tradition: wildfire season.

Last week I wrote that hummingbirds love penstemons. Well, so do I. My friend Julie gave me some deep purple penstemon transplants a few weeks ago that are already blooming, even after a bit of transplant shock. After the Fourth of July Fireworks were cancelled due to wind and a concern from the Carson City Fire Department regarding potential fire danger, the fireworks have been rescheduled for Saturday night.

Views of the fireworks will be possible from around central Carson City, but the best viewing will occur at Mills Park.

The Western Nevada Development District (WNDD) board of directors approved the 2022 update to its Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS), ensuring that the region has a roadmap to progress and prosperity.

Using $50 million in federal money, lawmakers are expanding a child care subsidy program, allowing families to get help with daycare even if they were previously considered to be too wealthy for the assistance.

The Nevada Child Care Fund will now be open to families making $60,000 to $70,000 per year for a household of four, nearly double the previous income threshold, which limited access to families that make up to 130 percent of the poverty level ($36,075 a year for a family of four).

The USDA Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) National Veterinary Services Laboratories, in coordination with the Nevada Department of Agriculture (NDA), have confirmed the first case of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) in a backyard (non-commercial) flock of domestic birds in Carson City, Nev.

The affected birds were a group of chickens and ducks.

The affected premises has been quarantined and birds on the property will be depopulated to prevent the spread of the disease in accordance with USDA guidelines.

A free stargazing event will be held at the Silver-Stage Library in Silver Springs on Thursday July 14 at 9pm. Samuel Singer, PhD will use a Dobsonian telescope to show you planets, stars, planetary nebulae, galaxies, and more. Dr. Singer will tell you everything you want to know about the objects you are viewing. He can also answer your other questions about astronomy. Dr. Singer is the founder and executive director of the non-profit Wyoming Stargazing https://www.wyomingstargazing.org/ located in Jackson, Wyoming.

The Electra Fire began three days ago and has since burned 4,428 acres across Amador and Calaveras Counties in California.

As of Friday morning, the fire is 65 percent contained.

On Thursday, Carson City Mayor Lori Bagwell chose the two final winners of the Best of Carson City Pets Contest hosted by the Nevada Humane Society.

Over 150 pets were submitted by Carson City residents, from dogs to cats, rabbits to turtles, and everything in between!

Humane Society staff pared down the entries to about 25, from which Mayor Bagwell made the final selections.

The two finalists, who will be treated to a professional photo shoot, are Wilhelmina (aka Mimi) the dog, and Sammy the cat.

Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space will be working on updating the master plan for Mills Park and is seeking community feedback.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help locating Katharine Kahler. She was last seen on July 5, 2022 by her family and is believed to be in the Reno area.

The Mile High Jazz Band will be joined by singer Jakki Ford and six award-winning poets and readers for "One and Only,” an evening of big-band jazz and poetry, on Tuesday, July 12, from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m., outdoors at A to Zen Studio in the north parking lot (former location of Grocery Outlet), 1803 N. Carson Street in Carson City.

MINDEN — On June 23, the Mammoth Lakes Police Department attempted to stop a Silver Acura MDX which was suspected of committing catalytic converters thefts. The vehicle fled and a pursuit ensued. At the end of the pursuit, Jean Anthony Henderson-Hamilton, a 37-year-old male from Sparks and Deanna Kaye Douglas, a 49-year-old female from Fallon were arrested.
