A woman was arrested Tuesday for suspicion of felony grand larceny after allegedly attempting to steal $2,615.15 in merchandise from Walmart, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office report.

Sheriff's Night Out is happening tonight, Tuesday, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Mills Park in Carson City. This family community event hosted by the Carson City Sheriff's Office is designed to bring awareness to anti-crime programs, local community resources and more.

UPDATE: The small wildfire near Holbrook Junction north of Topaz Lake has been knocked down, according to an East Fork fire battalion chief on scene. He noted the knockdown was possible with the help of the U.S. Forest Service. The fire burned around 1 acre.

East Fork Fire responded Tuesday afternoon to brush fires burning in Douglas County in the Pine Nut Mountains east of Johnson Lane and there's a brush fire north of Topaz Lake.

BRIDGEPORT, Calif. — The Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest’s Bridgeport Ranger District is asking for public comment on a proposal to increase the Hoover Wilderness permit fee for overnight trips on specific high-use trailheads. This fee increase will provide direct funding to aid in the stewardship of the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest portion of the Hoover Wilderness and make it more consistent to what other land management agencies charge for overnight use of wilderness areas in the Sierra Nevada Range.

The Lyon County Board of Commissioners is being asked Thursday, August 4 to approve a Conditional Use Permit to allow construction of approximately 3,310 linear feet of overhead 120 kilowatt (kV) transmission line segment located outside of the 2020 Comprehensive Master Plan designated utility corridors to provide a connection from a new power plant in Washoe County to tie into the NV Energy's Eagle Substation for distribution to retail customers.

A 19-year-old man was arrested Friday for suspicion of robbery, grand larceny of an auto and felony domestic battery with strangulation among alleged other offenses, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.

Lyon County Utilities will be performing fire hydrant flow testing throughout the Dayton and Mound House areas on August 3 and 4, 2022.

CARSON CITY — The Nevada Department of Administration announced Wednesday a substantial increase in the number of U.S. military veterans hired for state jobs, with veterans now making up 6.2 percent of the state workforce in Nevada, up from 1.8 percent in 2016. At 7:41 p.m., a rollover crash with ejection was reported in front of the Maverick Gas Station on Highway 50 E. and College.

The individual who was ejected from the vehicle is reported to be "highly intoxicated" according to the 911 caller.

Just before 6 p.m. Friday night a crash was reported in the 600 block of Hot Springs Road.

Two vehicles are involved and at this time it does not appear that there are injuries.

Deputies are enroute to the scene.

Motorists should seek alternate routes or use caution while in the area.

Sierra Junior Tennis Association is pleased to announce that 32 junior tennis players will compete in the first Sierra Junior Tennis Association (SJTA) tournament hosted at Carson High School today, Saturday, July 30.

The tournament is a fundraiser for Carson High School’s Boys and Girls Tennis Teams whose season starts in August.
