Carson Carson City sheriff's deputies make DUI, warrant arrests

A 28-year-old Carson City man was arrested Monday for suspicion of misdemeanor DUI and other offenses following a traffic stop.

Deputies arrested the man after observing him speeding eastbound on East Robinson Street, going approximately 40 mph in a 25 mph zone and nearly striking a parked when he failed to maintain a lane, according to the booking report.

The vehicle stop was at East Robinson and North Saliman. Dispatch advised the vehicle's plates were suspended. The driver identified himself. The deputy observed he had red watery eyes, slurred speech and an odor of alcohol coming from the vehicle. The deputy asked if he had consumed any alcohol. The man replied he had a 24-ounce hard lemonade a couple hours prior, the report states.

The man provided his driver's license but could not provide proof of insurance or registration for the vehicle. Dispatch advised the man's license had been suspended indefinitely. The man agreed to standardized field sobriety tests and showed signs of impairment. He provided a preliminary breath test of .164 and was arrested. At jail he provided evidentiary breath tests of .142 and .138.

Among the other offenses he was booked for: failure to maintain a lane, no proof of insurance, driving with a suspended license and driving with suspended registration. Bail: $2,910.

In other arrests:
— A 36-year old Carson City man was arrested Monday for suspicion of DUI, failure to maintain a lane, failure to use headlights, a taillight violation and driving without a valid license.

According to the booking report, a deputy was dispatched to the area of Highway 50 and North Deer Run Road for a report of a possible DUI driver. The reporting party advised a vehicle was driving east on Highway 50 without rear taillights on. The vehicle was driving slowly and failing to maintain its lane. It was later determined the vehicle went into a ditch prior to the traffic stop.

A deputy observed the suspect vehicle driving toward him with its hazard lights on and the reporting party vehicle following. The deputy did a traffic stop on the suspect vehicle, which was slow to stop but eventually came to a complete stop in the area of Highway 50 East and Deer Run Road, the report states.

The officer made contact with the driver, and could see that his eyes were red. The deputy could smell a mild odor of alcohol coming from his person. The man agreed to field sobriety tests and showed signs of impairment. The man admitted to consuming 8 to 10 beers and stopped about 20 minutes prior to the traffic stop. He provided a preliminary breath test of .166 and was arrested. Bail: $1,600.

— A 27-year-old Carson City man was arrested Monday for misdemeanor criminal contempt. According to the booking report, deputies were called to the 3400 block of North Carson Street for a report of a man throwing rocks at a building.

Deputies arrived, spoke with the man and learned he was on Department of Alternative Sentencing with conditions not to be in possession of alcoholic beverages, which he was and admitted to having. DAS advised CCSO to arrest the man for violation of conditions. Bail: $1,000 cash.

— A 33-year-old Carson City man, Brenon James Tyzbir, was arrested early Tuesday for a felony warrant alleging domestic battery with strangulation. The warrant was issued July 15, 2022 out of Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $25,000.

— A 37-year-old Dayton man, Paul James Kelm, was booked Monday for a felony failure to appear warrant issued out of Carson City District Court. Bail: $5,000 cash.
