Mile High Jazz Band will present “Big Band Jazz at Gina's,” on Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2023, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Gina's Good Life Music and Lounge, 507 N. Carson Street inside the Carson Nugget.

The music is free, donations welcome.

At 3:47 p.m. Saturday a crash was reported on William Street involving two vehicles.

Traffic is blocked and deputies are enroute to the scene.

Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo has appointed Alan Jenne as Director for the Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW).

The appointment comes after Tony Wasley, NDOW Director of almost 10 years, retired in December ending a 25-year tenure with the agency.

The speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Michael “Mike” Smith, a retired high school principal who relocated to Carson City from the Memphis area in 2017. His PowerPoint presentation will commemorate the life and legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on the national holiday observed in his honor since 1986.

CARSON CITY — Governor Joe Lombardo announced the appointment of Christopher Sewell as Director of the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation.

While the National Weather Service is not currently forecasting additional flooding concerns with the upcoming storms, Taylor Allison of the Lyon County Office of Emergency Management said her office is ready to respond again if the flooding occurs.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office Investigation Division is attempting to identify a vehicle and a driver in a hit and run crash involving a pedestrian that happened Tuesday evening, Jan. 10 near the intersection of Saliman Road and William Street.

Carson City Sheriff's Office deputies responded early Wednesday evening to two hit and run vehicle crashes on South Carson Street. No serious injuries were reported.

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office has arrested a suspect in connection to a robbery last month at the Walmart store near the Carson City, Douglas county line in which the suspect reached for a handgun in a confrontation with store security.

The Nevada Department of Transportation is advising drivers to expect State Route 208 to be closed for an indeterminate amount of time through the Wilson Canyon in Lyon County following a major landslide and rockfall across the roadway.

While many skiers, snowboarders and winter recreation enthusiasts are excited about the recent dumping of snow across the Sierra, one draw back is the increased potential for avalanche.

There is considerable avalanche danger above and near the treeline, and moderate avalanche danger below the treeline.

It's been raining and snowing a lot in western Nevada and while everyone can appreciate the value of water in the spring and summer, it's been a helluva ride.

In December 2018, I moved out to the Dayton Valley Road ranchos, a beautiful rural residential area that lies between the magnificent Pine Nut mountains to the south and the vibrant Carson River to the north.

Two women were arrested Jan. 5 for alleged child neglect/endangerment and drug offenses following a felony traffic stop for parental abduction, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.

Wednesday will bring a few rain and snow showers around Carson City and surrounding areas, with a brief precipitation break Thursday and Friday before another potent storm system will move into the region by the weekend, according to the National Weather Service.

UPDATE: US-395 southbound between Mammoth Lakes and Bishop is now open to vehicle traffic. R2 chain control restrictions are in place. Northbound to Mammoth will open at noon.

Caltrans crews will continue working throughout the day and into the night removing snow from US 395. With a break in the storms, progress is being made in the hardest hit areas of Crestview and Conway Summit.
