DETR Director appoints Deputy Directors: Josh Marhevka and Troy Jordan
Christopher Sewell, Director of the Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation (DETR) appointed Josh Marhevka as Deputy Director of Operations and Troy Jordan as Deputy Director of Programs at DETR.
“Josh and Troy have been a very important part of our team, and I am thrilled they can continue their mission at DETR in a new role. They will be instrumental in making sure we remain committed to workforce development efforts across the state,” said Christopher Sewell, director of DETR.
Josh Marhevka’s work with DETR began in May of 2019 as the supervisor of the Management and Administration Support Services Unit at the Employment Security Division. Marhevka became a project manager professional in March of 2020. He has been DETR’s CFO for the last 18 months, before becoming Deputy Director of Operations.
Marhevka started his public service career at the Nevada Department of Taxation where he was the project manager for the Recreational Marijuana Program and the Transportation Tax Initiative.
Marhevka is fifth generation Nevadan, and holds a degree in business administration from the University of Phoenix.
Troy Jordan has served as senior legal counsel to DETR’S Employment Security Division since 2019.
Jordan brings decades of experience in the private and public sector. He has worked as a deputy district attorney for Elko County and Carson City. Troy also served the state as a senior deputy attorney general and co-counsel for the State of Nevada for disputes arising out of the Tobacco Master Settlement Agreement.
His legal background includes five published opinions before the Nevada Supreme Court and numerous oral arguments before the Nevada Supreme Court, the Nevada Court of Appeals, and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. Troy has been recognized as a top 100 lawyer in North America and the Best of Reno while in private practice.
Jordan holds a degree in business from the University of Nevada and a law degree from California Western School of Law in San Diego.
The deputy directors of operations and programs assist the director in managing resources, policies, budget, and leading operational activities to accomplish the agency’s mission.
