Full moon hike, dune trek among Washoe Lake State Park events this month
NEW WASHOE CITY — October events at Washoe Lake State Park include a Full Moon Hike and a guided hike through the sand dunes.
Reservations are required only for the Full Moon Hike and can be made by calling (775) 687-4319 or e-mailing wlsp@parks.nv.gov.
Oct. 13, 2019: Full Moon Hike
Reservations are required for this moderate hike into the hills above Deadman’s Creek! The hike is approximately 3 miles long with an elevation gain of 620 feet. The trail is steep and rocky in some places, with uneven footing. Participants should bring a flashlight and water, wear sturdy hiking shoes, and dress in layers for the weather. Dogs are allowed but must be kept on a leash at all times.
WHEN: Sunday, October 13, 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.
WHERE: Washoe Lake State Park Maze Parking Lot. 4855 Eastlake Blvd. Washoe Valley, NV 89704. Take Exit 44 from I-580 and drive north on Eastlake Blvd. approximately 4 miles. The park entrance is on the left. Turn left past the fee booth and the Maze is the first parking lot on the right.
Oct. 20, 2019: Dune Trek Guided Hike
This is a moderate 5 mile hike through the sand dunes from the Equestrian Area to the North Boat Ramp and back. This trail has around 60 feet of elevation gain and involves walking in loose sand. Please wear sturdy hiking shoes, bring water and snacks, and dress in layers for the weather. Dogs are allowed but must be kept on a leash at all times.

WHERE: Washoe Lake State Park Equestrian Area Parking Lot. 4855 Eastlake Blvd. Washoe Valley, NV 89704. Take Exit 44 from I-580 and drive north on Eastlake Blvd. approximately 4 miles. The park entrance is on the left. Turn right past the fee booth, pass the campground, and follow the short gravel road to the Equestrian Area.
