CARSON CITY — The Nevada State Museum will host a Day of the Dead Celebration this weekend from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1, and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2. As part of the event and celebration, Carson High School ceramics students from Ms. Alisa Kuniya’s class and third graders from Bordewich Bray Elementary School will exhibit Dia De Los Muertos masks and alters.

I’m watching leaves fall. What does one do with all these leaves? I mentioned in a previous article, some can be used as mulch around trees and shrubs. Others can be shredded with the lawnmower and added to a compost pile. However, winter composting presents a few challenges, primarily due to the cold temperatures. But you can still compost.

As the last Nevada Day event on Saturday was winding down, the pleasantly warm weather the Carson City region has been experiencing for several days seems to have gone the way of the setting sun.

While sunshine remains in the fold Sunday and through much of the week, daytime high temperatures will be around 20 to 25 degrees cooler than what the region has, for days, been experiencing, according to the National Weather Service.

Blinky Man is Carson City’s biannual bikes-and-brews fest that occurs once in the spring and once right before Nevada Day each year, and the pack of light-draped and costumed bike enthusiasts rolled through town on Friday evening.

This Nevada Day weekend the residents of Storey County welcomed a new miner to town. A wooden carved miner statue found its new home at Miners Park in Virginia City surrounded by a welcoming crowd and a proud visionary.

Saturday's Nevada Day parade in Carson City represented the Silver State in all its glory from wild west to traditional themes that included marching bands, plenty of costumed participants, cheerful clowning plus new floats and the return of some classics. Here's some photos from the parade.

Carson Demolition, Muscle Powered and the Desert Pigs crew from Lyon County made up an organized group of 28 volunteers who spent Sunday cleaning up Carson City after the Nevada Day festivities Saturday.

According to Muscle Powered's Donna Inversin, 15 bags of recyclables were collected before 11 a.m. with more being scooped up.

Carson High School cheerleaders cheered as they entered Walmart in Carson City and then performed two more cheers on top of that. There is an old saying found in a very old book which says, “You have not because you ask not.”

Just after 3 p.m. first responders were called to the area of Telegraph and Carson Streets on a report of an accident involving a motorcycle and a car. The reporting party stated the vehicle struck the motorcycle at a low rate of speed, and the motorcycle hit the vehicle in front of them.
