Carson City deputies make arrests for meth, battery and multiple DUIs over weekend

A 50-year-old man was arrested early Friday on North Carson Street for possession of methamphetamine, gross misdemeanor possession of a dangerous weapon, three misdemeanors and for felony suspicion of being a habitual criminal, a Carson City sheriff's report states.

Arrested was John Saenz, listed from Reno. During an investigation following a traffic stop on a silver Mercedes early Friday in the 3700 block of North Carson Street, a canine drug dog alerted positive on an exterior sniff of the vehicle.

Deputies searched the car and located 15.9 grams of methamphetamine in the owner's manual case on the rear passenger side floor. Also located was a methamphetamine pipe. And, also located were 3 black collapsible batons on the rear passenger side floor.

The man was taken into custody for suspicion of possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a dangerous weapon, driving without a valid license and no proof of insurance. Dispatch advised he had multiple felony convictions out of California for burglary, drug possession and possession stolen property. He also faces a felony charge of habitual criminal. Total bail amount listed: $107,066.

In other arrests:
— A 33-year-old Carson City man was arrested Friday, 6:32 p.m. in the area of New Ridge and North Ridge for misdemeanor suspicion of DUI and driving with expired registration.

According to the arrest report, a deputy made a traffic stop on a vehicle for expired registration. Deputies observed the driver had red watery eyes and slurred speech and smelled of alcohol. He was asked if he would perform standardized field sobriety tests. The man agreed and showed signs of impairment on the tests. He provided a .216 preliminary breath test and was arrested for suspicion of DUI. Bail: $1,249.

— A 26-year-old woman was arrested Friday, 3:07 a.m. in the area of Highway 50 and Lompa Lane for misdemeanor suspicion of DUI, driving without a valid license and making an improper turn.
According to the arrest report, deputies were called to the area regarding a vehicle accident in which a vehicle was high-centered on the Highway 50 divider. The woman agreed to standardized field sobriety tests and showed signs of impairment. She provided a preliminary breath test of .243 on a partial reading and was arrested. Bail: $1,461.

— A man was arrested at 1:24 a.m. Saturday for gross misdemeanor suspicion of indecent exposure. According to the arrest report, deputies were called to a residence for a report of a battery. Officers determined a battery had not occurred. Deputies informed one of the subjects that he was trespassed from the property. The man then began to talk over the deputies and said he was going to go over to the neighbor's house and commit a felony, the report states. Officers attempted to reason with the man, who then became irritated and pulled his private parts out of his pants, exposing himself to two officers, the neighbor and the neighbor's son. He was arrested for indecent exposure. Bail: $2,500.

— A Carson City woman was arrested Saturday, 6:14 p.m. for misdemeanor suspicion of hit and run, failure to aid render, driving an unsafe vehicle and DUI alcohol.

According to the arrest report, a deputy was called to a hit and run crash. The victim advised they were following the suspect vehicle. An officer located the suspect vehicle and activated his emergency lights. The vehicle continue and then made a turn onto Old Clear Creek, failing to yield and accelerating away from the deputy.

The vehicle, which was missing a front rear tire and riding on its rim, came to a stop at an RV park and started to speed away and then came to a stop.

The deputy made contact with the driver, and could smell alcohol coming from the vehicle. The driver had red watery eyes and slurred speech. The officer asked the driver why she hadn't stopped after hitting the other vehicle. The driver said she had no idea her vehicle was in a crash or that her vehicle was disabled, the report states.

The officer asked how much she had to drink. The woman advised not much and that she also had a couple shots of whiskey. The officer asked if she would submit to standardized field sobriety tests. She showed signs of impairment on the tests and was arrested. She refused a request for evidentiary testing. A warrant was obtained from a judge. Bail amount listed: $2,573.

— A 24-year-old Carson City man was arrested Saturday, 1:59 p.m. on Curry Street adjacent to South Carson Street for suspicion of DUI. According to the arrest report, a deputy was notified of a suspected DUI driver, and was flagged down by a witness who pointed out the vehicle, which pulled out of 1200 South Carson Street and abruptly turned north on Curry Street, swerving.

The deputy conducted a traffic stop, and asked the man to roll down his windows. The deputy asked the man if he had been drinking and the man replied he had. He agreed to standardized field sobriety tests and showed signs of impairment. The man became uncooperative during the testing. He was arrested for suspicion of DUI. At jail he consent to a blood sample. Bail: $1,137

— A 53-year-old Carson City man as arrested Saturday, 11:56 p.m. for a misdemeanor failure to appear bench warrant issued August 14, 2019 out of Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $640.

— A 33-year-old Carson City woman as arrested Saturday, 7:08 p.m. in the area of Curry and Telegraph for suspicion of battery. According to the arrest report, a woman told deputies she had been pushed to the ground by an unknown female inside a bar.

Deputies located the female suspect, and asked her questions which she refused to answer. She had a strong odor of alcohol on here breath and she was unsteady on her feet and had thick speech. After multiple times of being asked to identify herself she did. She was advised of the investigation.

The woman was advised she was going to be issued a citation for battery. The female suspect became upset, and in an confrontational manner walked toward the victim in the incident, pushing her way between a deputy and a sergeant. She was stopped and detained. Due to the woman's intoxication level, inability to follow instruction and aggressive manner toward the victim, she was arrested for suspicion of battery. Bail: $1,137.

— A 35-year-old Carson City man was arrested Sunday, 8:17 p.m. for a violation of suspended sentence warrant warrant. Bail: $1,000.

— A 61-year-old Carson City man was arrested Sunday, 5:37 p.m. in the 5600 block of Morgan Mill Road for misdemeanor suspicion of DUI second, failure to maintain a lane and a tail lamp violation.
According to the arrest report, a park ranger made contact with a subject by the old bridge in the Brunswick Canyon area. The subject told the ranger he was going to have a few more beers and then drive off. The park ranger followed the vehicle, and made contact with dispatch.

The deputy located the vehicle, which traveled north on Deer Run Road, then made a left turn onto Morgan Mill Road and began to travel west in the eastbound lane. The deputy activated his light to initiate a stop, the vehicle continued to drive into a dirt lot. A deputy used his intercom and told the driver to pull over. The man pulled over behind a building.

The man exited the driver side of the vehicle. The officer observed the man's pants were down to the point where the officer could see his buttocks. The officer did a pat down for weapons and observed the pants were wet and mildly covered in sand. The man said he fell into the river, the report states.

The man admitted he had consumed about four beers "Mickey's" and asked if he was going to be arrested for DUI. The officer asked the man if he was willing to do standardized field sobriety tests. He said he did not and just wanted a preliminary breath test. He provided a partial preliminary breath test of .284 and was arrested for suspicion of DUI. He told the deputy that he would submit to an evidentiary blood draw.

Later, at the hospital the man declined a blood draw, and asked the deputy to make the decision for him. Based on the information, the deputy contacted the DA's office and applied for and received a warrant for a blood draw. Bail: $2,500.

UPDATE THURSDAY: The Washoe County Regional Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the two people who died Wednesday morning following the two vehicle crash on I-580 in Carson City. They are Alejandra Hernandez Valtierra, 36, and Viola Santoyo Huizar, 48, both of Carson City.

UPDATE 12:42PM: Southbound I-580 in Carson City was opened as of around 11 a.m., said a Nevada State Police spokeswoman, who provided more details of the fatal crash that happened early Wednesday morning.

Both the driver of a car and a truck involved in the crash died. Their names have not been released pending notification of family members. The car, which was going the wrong way — northbound in the southbound lane — struck the truck and caught on fire, according to a NSP preliminary investigation thus far. The vehicle makes are unknown at this time.
