Fire crews from Carson City, Lyon and Douglas sent to California fires
Fire departments from Carson City, Douglas County and Lyon County have sent engines to fight massive wildfires burning in Northern and Southern California.
On Friday, Carson City Fire Department sent a Brush Engine as part of a 5 engine Strike Team to the Kincade Fire in Northern California. The team has been working nearly non-stop since Saturday morning defending homes at the front of the fire, said Carson City Fire Chief Sean Slamon.
Carson City Fire Department also sent a firefighter as part of an overhead assignment to the Martinez 3 Fire in Southern California.
East Fork Fire Protection District has sent 1 engine to the Kincade Fire with a crew of four.
Central Lyon Fire Protection District has sent 7 firefighters and two engines — one to Southern California and the other to the Kincade fire in Northern California, said Chief Rich Harvey. Firefighters with Central Lyon have been actively engaged on the fires for four days, Harvey said, with one crew having just finished a 48 hour shift.
According to Harvey, Central Lyon is part of the Lake Tahoe Regional Fire Chief's Association Strike Team, which sent 5 Type 3 engines with a strike team leader. The engines are from Central Lyon Fire, Carson City Fire, Fallen Leaf Lake Fire, Tahoe Douglas Fire and Truckee Fire.
With the Kincade Fire burning in Sonoma County, there are 4,150 fire personnel assigned to the fire made up of 85 crews. As of Monday morning it had burned 66,231 acres and was 5 percent contained, according to CalFire.
A Red Flag warning continues in the fire areas, including the Kincade fire area where 40-50 mph wind gusts are expected, according to CalFire.
