Just after noon on Friday first responders were called to a rollover accident on I-580 near the Carson street exit on report of a rollover accident in which the driver may possibly be trapped in the vehicle.

Updates to follow, avoid the area if possible.

The Northridge subdivision of Carson City has four distinct parks or recreation areas. They are

A 27-year-old man was arrested Wednesday for a felony fugitive from justice warrant issued out of Missouri, a Carson City sheriff's deputy report states.

Stephen Zachary Wickware was taken into custody at 5:06 p.m. in the 2400 block of Richard Drive.

According to the arrest report, deputies responded to the area for a report of door to door sales people. A deputy spoke with a female and a male, who identified themselves.

With the rising of a single Friday morning balloon, Nevada Day has officially begun.

Award Winning Poet Reads on the Comstock November 2

SILVER CITY, Nev. — Poet David Lee was a visiting artist at the Resident Artist Program in Silver City in 2016, 2017, and 2018, and will be back again this winter. His repeated stays in the historic Comstock town inspired his latest book of poems, Mine Tailings. It is dedicated to the people of Silver City. The book was released by 5 Sisters Press this Fall, and will be the focus of Lee’s reading at the Silver City Schoolhouse (community center) on Saturday, Nov. 2 at 1 p.m.

The Carson City Board of Supervisors is seeking applications from persons interested in serving on the Carson City Library Board of Trustees. This Committee oversees all Library policy and budgets. Applicants must be willing to serve approximately six to eight hours a month.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of events around the Carson City region Friday through Sunday to celebrate Nevada Day. Activities include the annual parade down Carson Street, a carnival at Mills Park, the 30th annual Nevada Day Classic, The La Ka Lel Be Pow Wow at the MAC, beard and rock drilling contests, delicious food dishes, pancakes, chili and plenty of beverages to suit kids and adults of all ages.

Carson City Sheriff's Office held a ceremony Thursday in which a law enforcement officer with the agency was promoted to sergeant, two were sworn as deputies and one sworn as a reserve deputy.

The Ormsby Room at the Carson City Sheriff's Office was a full house as Carson City sheriff's law enforcement officer TJ Boggan, who has been with the sheriff's office since October 2006, was promoted to sergeant. For the past 2 years Boggan has been assigned to the Northern Nevada FBI Safe Streets Task Force.

Barbara Joy Mott was born to Frank and Ruby Clair in La Junta, Colorado on Oct. 3, 1932. She was Frank and Ruby's second child and only daughter. Her father was a blacksmith and metal worker but passed away when Joy was only ten years old.

After Frank's death the family made its living by picking fruit in California such as peaches, almonds, grapefruit, plums and sometimes cotton. Barbara always went by her middle name Joy and said that she didn't know that her first name was Barbara until she was in the fifth grade.

Nietzsche wrote that "Without music, life would be a mistake." But thanks to band teacher Nicolas Jacques, that's a mistake no one is making at Carson Middle School in Carson City. Music is everywhere in the school, the district and the surrounding community as students throng to join Jacques’ concert band, marching band and jazz band ensembles.

Counting down the hours until the Nevada Day weekend celebration begins, we're heading into Thursday, Oct. 24, 2019 with sunny skies in the forecast through Sunday. Thursday opens the first of the four-day annual RSVP Nevada Day Carnival at Mills Park with $1 ride family night hosted by Carson City Toyota. Sierra Lutheran High School's Andreas Gilson (Junior) ran a personal best 5K in Rocklin, California of 17:55 against a loaded field at the Bella Vista Bronco Invitational on Saturday he finished 31st.

Junior Jacob Tack ran 20:16, good for 91st place, he was followed by Sophomore Aaron Waite who covered the scenic wooded course in 20:55 (105th), and Freshman Flynn Scheibe was 119th in 22:10. In the girls race three young Falcons flew through the rolling course in tight formation.

An El Dorado County, Calif., sheriff's deputy was shot and killed early Wednesday morning in the town of Somerset near Placerville. Deputy Brian Ishmael, a four-year veteran of the department, died as a result of the shooting. Two people are in custody.
