Storey County honors Battle Born State, miners of the Comstock with new Virginia City statue
This Nevada Day weekend the residents of Storey County welcomed a new miner to town. A wooden carved miner statue found its new home at Miners Park in Virginia City surrounded by a welcoming crowd and a proud visionary.
Austin Osborne, Storey County Manager provided remarks followed by Scott Jolcover, Director of Business Development for Comstock Mining.
Comstock Mining provided the stone base foundation, a host, from the Justice Mine. The event was capped off with Larry Echevarria, project visionary and employee with Storey County Public Works, telling the story of his vision and unveiling the statue.
Virginia City’s place in Nevada’s history is well known. That discovery in 1859 helped propel Nevada to statehood five years later. The wealth from the Comstock mine, and many others, reached across the United States from San Francisco to New York City impacting business and industry to this day.
A 160 years later, this statue is dedicated to commemorate the town’s place in Nevada’s history and the thousands of miners that worked these hills and mined the ground during the town’s boom.
