Tiffani Barber was diagnosed with stage four brain cancer on Dec. 8, 2012. For those who did not know Tiffani, all she ever wanted to do was help people. She carried water and snacks in her car to give to the homeless and people less fortunate than her.

A 36-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Sunday, 12:15 p.m. in the 3200 block of E. Nye Lane for suspicion of misdemeanor battery, a sheriff's deputy report states.

According to the report, deputies were dispatched to the 3000 block of East Nye Lane in reference to a disturbance. A female called the sheriff's office asking for a deputy and then the phone disconnected.

Over the weekend, Carson City’s Community Emergency Response Team program welcomed new and returning volunteers.

The program incorporates life-saving and decision-making skills in order to decrease injury and mortality; providing help when an unplanned disastrous event unfolds which has the potential to overwhelm the existing response capability. Volunteers focused on disaster preparedness, practiced fire suppression, emergency operations, search and rescue techniques, and response to terrorism.

The Carson City permit center will soon begin accepting all building permits, zoning permits and business licenses through an online customer service portal. Customers can begin using the online portal on Tuesday, Nov. 12.

Most people are familiar with the basic bulbs such as daffodils and tulips, but what about some of the plants commonly called bulbs that are actually corms, rhizomes, tubers or tuberous roots? All of these terms refer to the specialized underground structures that are storage organs for many of our spring blooming plants.

Central Lyon County Fire responded late Sunday morning to a brush fire in Stagecoach off Santa Fe Trail, which has caused a power outage.

The Salvation Army in Carson City will hold a job fair on this Tuesday, Nov. 5 from 10 a.m. to noon. The Salvation Army will be hiring seasonal workers to help with their holiday programs such as Thanksgiving food drives, Christmas food drives and Angel Tree Christmas toy distribution.

A 35-year-old Washoe Valley man was arrested early Saturday morning for suspicion of felony domestic battery third offense and an outside agency warrant, a Carson City sheriff's deputy report states.

In an effort to promote public safety by preventing contact between children and supervised sex offenders, officers from the Department of Public Safety, Division of Parole and Probation conducted the 15th annual operation Scarecrow on Oct. 31, 2019.

Teagan Hansen ran a 16:58 5K Saturday at Rancho San Rafael Park in Reno and easily won the Northern 2A Title. Nick Pietzke of Incline was second 10 seconds behind Hansen.

The Sierra Lutheran High School Girls Cross-Country Team finished second Saturday at The Northern Regional XC Meet in Reno and punched their ticket to State Championship Meet next Saturday at Rancho San Rafael Park.

The Nevada Commission for Women unveiled a limited edition license plate celebrating women’s suffrage as a commemoration of the 100th anniversary of women gaining the right to vote.

The plate itself is historic to Nevada, as it was the first assembly bill, Assembly Bill 499, to be backed by only women. Bills need a majority vote to pass any legislation, and this session was the first session any state in the country saw a legislature with a female-led majority.

UPDATE SUNDAY: Three vehicles were involved in Saturday afternoon's fatal crash on Highway 50 near Deer Run Road in Carson City. One person died. One suffered minor injuries. The name of the person who died has not been released. The cause of the crash is under investigation, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

First responders were called to a fatal vehicle accident on Highway 50 near Deer Run Road around 3:45 p.m. on Saturday.

The Carson High Holiday Craft Fair will be held at the Carson High School Friday November 22nd from 5-8pm and Saturday November 23rd from 9-4pm. Admission on Friday is $2.00 and Saturday is $1.50 or $1.00 with a canned food item. All canned food items will be donated to Advocates to End Domestic Violence.

Using only a drill bit and a hammer, the annual Rock Drilling Competition wowed and impressed on Nevada Day.

The winner of the competition was awarded to First Place, $2000 – Emmit Hoyl.

The intention of the competition is to attempt to drill the deepest hole possible within ten minutes, with only a steady stream of water to help the drillers excavate.

Anyone is welcome to join Partnership Carson City for its free Wellness Yoga series, beginning Monday, Nov 4 at 5:15 p.m. for one hour at the Partnership office, 1925 N. Carson St.

After leading deputies from multiple agencies on a chase through Carson City and into Washoe Valley Friday evening, a 26-year-old Carson City man was arrested at gun point after crashing a vehicle and running across the I-580 on foot.

Ronald Gutzman passed peacefully on 10/23/2019 at the age of 84. He served in the marine corps as a control tower operator, graduated with two master’s in mathematics and became a principal for Las Vegas school district in 1963. Ron was involved in copious organizations and groups such as the Disabled Veterans of America, Marine Corps League, and American Legion member where he tirelessly advocated for veterans.

Just after 6 p.m. Friday night responders were called to a rollover crash near the Carson Douglas county line up towards Spooner Junction. There were multiple cars involved and it appeared there were injuries. An off duty paramedic was on scene.

Motorists should avoid or use caution in the area.

What began as an attempt to serve a felony warrant out of Sacramento led to a high-speed police chase involving multiple jurisdictions Friday night, culminating in a single vehicle crash on Old 395 near the I-580 exit.

Just after 5 p.m. Carson City deputies attempted to pull over a silver 4-door Nissan SUV near Goni and Arrowhead, according to dispatch, in connection with a felony warrant out of Sacramento.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s assistance in attempting to identify a suspect in an armed robbery.

On October 30th, 2019 at approximately 10 p.m., an unknown male subject walked into a business in the 1400 block of College Parkway. The subject produced a black handgun and forced the employee of the business to hand over money from the cash register, and took other items from the store. The male then fled from the scene.

Washoe County Sheriff’s Office detectives announced today that the remains of missing 20-year-old Kenyon Wilson were located late last week. Detectives say they are treating this case as a homicide investigation and are asking the public for any information that may help to identify and locate a suspect, or suspects.

This weekend, the Carson City Parks, Recreation, and Open Space Department will be hosting two interpretive events at Carson River Park.

On Wednesday, Lyon County announced a Boil Water notice to 34 residences on Grosh Avenue in Dayton following a broken water main that potentially stood to contaminate water systems for residents.

Following the announcement, the main was isolated and shut down, and those affected were without water.

A precautionary Boil Water Order Notice had been issued to those residents affected by the break. Crews anticipated the main would be repaired by noon Wednesday.

The Nevada State Museum in Carson City is gearing up for its 13th annual Dia de los Muertos celebration, an all ages event with free admission to the entire museum!

The music is always amazing at Hangtown, but it’s the people who make this festival special each year. Four days of warm sunshine, laughter and kindness — even without power from Pacific Gas & Electric. The power would come on, but mostly it was turned off. Generators sufficed.

PLACERVILLE, Calif. - Incident Commander Kevin Breitwieser has declared that the Caples Fire is now 100% contained and in patrol status at 3,435 acres. There has been almost no change in fire size since October 18. The extreme wind event on October 26 that prompted a public safety power shutoff was a good test of the containment lines and resulted in three small spots which were extinguished. Traces of smoke from interior burning will continue to be visible, but no additional fire growth is expected.

A 34-year-old Carson City man was arrested in the 3000 block of Thurman Circle early Thursday morning on nine counts including felony possession of stolen property, ex-felon in possession of a firearm, and six counts of possession of drug paraphernalia. In addition, two other people were arrested in connection with this incident for obstruction after allegedly telling deputies the man wasn’t at home.

According to the USGS, a 3.1 magnitude earthquake shook the region Friday morning. Did you feel it?

The earthquake jostled the region just after 12 a.m. 10 km South-Southwest of Dayton and East of Eagle Valley in Carson City.
