RENO — The Nevada Department of Public Safety commissioned the state's newest Peace Officers at the Academy 86 graduation ceremony held Thursday, Nov. 7 at the Galena High School Theater.

Of the 17 graduates, 11 will join the Nevada DPS, Parole and Probation Division and 6 will join the Nevada DPS, Highway Patrol Division. The new Peace Officers will be assigned statewide.

Join the Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space Department this Tuesday, Nov. 12, for November's Full Moon Hike in the beautiful Kings Canyon area. At 3:19 p.m. Friday afternoon a vehicle was reported to be on fire in the 4900 block of S. Edmonds Road.

As of 4:00 p.m. the fire was out and a tow truck was called to remove the vehicle.

The Carson City Fire Department released this statement:

"Your Carson City Firefighters are on scene of detached garage fire on the south end of the city. Firefighters quick actions prevented the fire from spreading to a nearby trailer and house. One firefighter received a minor injury. The garage and one vehicle inside were destroyed in the blaze."

The 2019 Toys For Tots season is upon us! We are looking for adults, youth and families to assist with sorting, packing and distributing toys to families in need during the holidays.

Toys for Tots orientation meeting is Wednesday, Nov. 13 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the iStorage Facility, 3579 Highway 50 East, Warehouse No. 114 in Carson City.

Carson City students are recognizing and honoring military men and women this week with Veteran’s Day displays and events. Veterans from all branches of military service, as well as families of students, have been encouraged to attend events Thursday, Friday and Tuesday. A 28-year-old male transient was arrested Wednesday for suspicion of felony failure to register as a sex offender, a felony contempt of court warrant out of Washoe County and a misdemeanor contempt of court warrant out of Sparks Township Court, a Carson City sheriff's deputy report states.
