Day of the Dead, pie baking contests, comedy and more: Events for Saturday, Nov. 2
Good morning Carson City and happy November! It’s going to be a beautiful day with a high of 65 and a chilly low of 33. We’ve got a ton of wonderful events this morning in the capital city, so let’s get into it!
Saturday, November 2
— Flying Pig Indoor Flea Market. 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Fuji Park Exhibit Hall. Come on down to the market and meet some great friendly vendors with gifts, antiques, collectibles, art, jewelry and so much more. Shop in comfort for your holiday gift giving by local artists. Open Sat.Nov. 2 from 8-3 and Sun. 9-3. Admission is $1 for adults and kids under 18 are free. Located on Old Clear Creek Road in Carson City, across from Costco. — Heavenly Holiday Faire. 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Carson Valley Methodist Church, 1375 Centerville Ln. in Gardnerville. Mark your calendars for a fun-filled day of handmade gifts, home baked goodies, Silent Auction, Kid’s Only Market, meet and greet with Santa, stay for lunch and Gift Basket Raffles at the “Heavenly Holiday Faire” on Saturday, Nov 2, 2019 from 9 am – 4 pm at the Carson Valley United Methodist Church, 1375 Centerville Rd. Gardnerville.
— 'Day of the Dead' community event featured at the Nevada State Museum. 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 600 N. Carson Street. One of Northern Nevada’s most popular cultural events — the annual Day of the Dead Community Celebration — returns to Carson City Friday and Saturday, Nov. 1-2, to the Nevada State Museum with a plethora of family friendly activities.
— Guided tours of the Nevada State Capitol. Two separate tours will take place at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. every Saturday in Carson City. Tours typically take an hour and include both the exterior of the building, nearby memorials as well as the interior of the building. Tours are available for up to 20 people on a first-come, first-served basis. The building includes numerous historic artifacts that range from portraits of past Nevada governors to sculptures to historical items showcased during Nevada’s Sesquicentennial celebration. The Capitol remains open to the public Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Guided tours of up to 20 people can be arranged in advance by calling the Nevada State Museum’s Education Program at 775-687-4810, ext. 237.
— Nevada to unveil license plate commemorating the 100th anniversary of women's suffrage. 11 a.m. at the Nevada State Library Atrium Lobby, 100 N. Stewart Street. Join the Nevada Commission for Women for the Unveiling of the specialty license plate commemorating the 100th Anniversary of Women's Suffrage in the United States.
— Pie Baking Contest. 11 a.m. at the Carson Valley Museum and Cultural Center. Show off your culinary skills at the Douglas County Historical Society’s Pie Baking Contest. This is a fundraiser benefiting the historical society. Featured pies are Apple, Pumpkin and Pecan. Entry fee is $5.00 per pie; maximum three pies per person.
— Award winning poet David Lee offers reading in Silver City. 1 p.m. at the Silver City Schoolhouse. Poet David Lee was a visiting artist at the Resident Artist Program in Silver City in 2016, 2017, and 2018, and will be back again this winter. His repeated stays in the historic Comstock town inspired his latest book of poems, Mine Tailings. It is dedicated to the people of Silver City.
— Wine Walk returns to downtown Carson City. 1 p.m. in downtown Carson City, 101 N. Carson Street. The Wine Walk is a must not miss! Held the First Saturday of every month from 1:00 – 5:00 p.m. For just $15 you’ll receive a commemorative wine glass and endless reasons to stroll through Downtown sipping and tasting the afternoon away. Bring your wine walk glass with the Carson City Logo on it and pay only $12. You can purchase tickets at the following locations: The Carson Nugget, Cactus Jack’s, Carson Jewelry and Loan, Bella Fiore, and Touched by Angels.
— Saturday Beginning Wheel Throwing at Ogres-Holm Pottery. 1 to 4 p.m. at 1215 S. Carson Street.. The Ogres of Ogres-Holm introduce you to clay in this 6-week open start class, including open studio time, is designed to get you started. It’s a great way to relax on a Saturday afternoon. $175 for 6 week session or $45 drop ins.
— Lego Club at the Carson City Library. 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at 900 N. Roop Street. Build self-led creations through hands-on learning with LEGO Education materials. Participants 9 and under must be accompanied by a caregiver of at least 13 years of age at all times.
— Archery Tag. 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Douglas County Community and Senior Center. Archery Tag is played similar to dodge ball but with bows and foam tipped arrows. This exciting, action packed game engages the whole family! (For anyone grades 6 and above)
— Live music at Glen Eagles Restaurant. 6:30 to 9 p.m. at 3700 N. Carson St. Enjoy live music that is sure to make you get up and dance every Wednesday through Saturday starting at 6:30 to 9:00ish.
— Evening with Divas at the Brewery Arts Center. 7 p.m. at 449 W. King Street. Witness four of the area's best vocalists as they share the stage for one amazing night, all to raise money to support the various programs of the Brewery Arts Center. Cindy Sabatini, Christina Bourne, Khalilah Cage and Misty Rea will be gracing the Performance Hall Stage for one night only.
— The Lost Reverends of the High Sierra at Bella Fiore Wines. 7 p.m. Back by popular demand to Bella Fiore Wines on Nov 2nd are The Lost Reverends of the High Sierra. Playing a broad range of music that includes classic rock, blues, country and even a show tune or two, The Lost Reverends are guaranteed to provide an energetic and entertaining evening.
— Gardnerville Retirement Community recognized as 'Business of the Year' at Local Chamber Awards Event. 7:30 p.m. at the Carson Valley Inn. The Chateau at Gardnerville, a Pegasus Senior Living assisted and memory care community, recently received the Carson Valley Chamber of Commerce's Business of the Year' award.
– Carson Comedy Club at the Carson Nugget. 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Carson Nugget, 507 N. Carson Street. Live Comedy every Friday and Saturday night at the Carson Nugget! Doors open at 7:15 p.m. Purchase tickets at the Winner's Club or online.
Sunday, November 3
— Muscle Powered Sunday bike ride. 9 a.m. Meet at Fremont Elementary School, 1511 Firebox Rd, Carson City, NV 89701, in the south parking lot, next to the Linear Ditch Trail. Come join Muscle Powered for a free, guided group walk, hike, or ride around Carson City!

— Nevada Raider Nation: Carson City Chapter Game Watch. 1 p.m. at Jimmy G’s, 301 N. Carson Street. Nevada Raider Nation, Carson City Chapter will host an Oakland Raider vs Detroit Lions game watch at 1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 3. Game watches are held at Jimmy G's 301 N. Carson St. Club members will bring food to share, while Jimmy G's offers drink specials to club members.
— Nevada Artists Association Arty Gallery 40th Anniversary Celebration. 2 to 4 p.m. at 449 W. King Street. Please join Nevada Artists Association in celebrating our 40th year as an Art Gallery here in Carson City. A little over 40 years ago we were instrumental in helping acquire the Brewery Center for the Arts campus. We then set about creating our gallery and have been up and running continuously for the past 40 years.
— World Renowned Concert Violinist. 4 p.m. at 405 College Parkway in Carson City. World renowned Violinist Jaime Jorge, will be giving a concert to benefit a local food pantry. Jaime has traveled over 6 million air miles and has played on 6 continents and in over 80 countries. He has recorded and released 17 albums. Jaime is coming to Carson City to share his gift of music by giving a free concert.
