Daniel Leif Braafladt died peacefully in Carson City, Nevada on Nov. 7, 2019 at the age of 62. Dan is survived by his wife Toni, his daughter Lacy, his grandkids Emmett and Reta, and his dog Bear.

He was born in Carmichael, CA to Jeane and Phil Braafladt. Dan spent a lifetime being the best type of man there is. He could fix anything. His spirit and jolly laugh made any occasion better. His love and respect for wildlife and nature were admirable. He was an avid hunter, sports lover, and was a pretty darn good shot. His wisdom, love, and long garage talks will be missed by so many.

It is the beginning or the ending of life, depending on the composer.

After weeks of abundant sunshine and above-average fall temperatures, some change is ahead weather wise around the Carson City region, with a system expected to move into the region late Tuesday, bringing the potential for some valley rain showers and mountain snow, but not considered in any way a major winter storm, forecasters say.

UPDATE: Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong says the incident, in which a man was found dead after apparently falling through the roof at a Carson City shopping center business, is being investigated as a possible after-hours burglary and that the deceased man had been dead for some time.

According to Sheriff Furlong, workers at a hair salon came into the business to open up for the day. When they arrived they found a deceased male on the ground, who appeared to have fallen through the ceiling.

An agreement that aims for state and federal agencies to increase their collaborative efforts to reduce the risks and impacts of catastrophic wildfire was finalized Friday by the Office of Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak, the U.S. Forest Service, the Bureau of Land Management, and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

William "Bill" Clarence Thornton, father, attorney, pilot, part-time cowboy, corny joke-teller, and mentor to many, had his final flight on Tuesday, November 5th, 2019 after gracefully charting his course with Parkinson's Disease for over twenty years. Bill died peacefully at home in hospice care surrounded by loved ones.


On and off, on off. That’s what I keep doing with our irrigation and hoses as the daytime temperatures stay warm, but with nighttime temperatures below freezing. On, water; off, open spigots and hoses and drain them. While this is tedious, I am enjoying the beautiful weather.

John Nicholas Sulli was born Jan. 1, 1953, in San Jose, Calif., to Emil and Eleanor Sulli. Surrounded by the family and caregivers that loved and cared for him, on Nov. 8, 2019, he passed peacefully and sweetly from this life to reunite with his family who have pre-deceased him. Johnny was blessed with being born and living with Down's Syndrome for 66 years, 10 months in mortality.

Nevada’s perimeter attack couldn’t counter USC’s presence in the paint as the Pac-12 visitors took a 76-66 game Saturday at Lawlor Events Center in Reno. The Wolf Pack fall to 2-2 on the year.

Just after 6 p.m. Saturday evening dispatch advised a caller had reported potential gunfire near Spear Street. Upon arrival to the area, a deputy responded they believed they heard fireworks.

Soon after, another resident reported hearing an explosion.

6:29 p.m.: Additional shots were heard in the area of Sonoma and Jackson Streets.

Just after 3 p.m. Saturday afternoon a fire was reported near Hells Bells and Park Hill. Hells Bells has been closed off to traffic while the fire is contained.

The cause of the fire is currently unknown; however, juveniles were reported to be on the hill above the fire, and at least one suspect was detained by the Sheriff’s Office.

Motorists should seek alternate routes until the fire is mopped up.

On Saturday afternoon from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Children's Museum of Northern Nevada partnered with the Washiw Tribe to bring the first annual Indigenous Peoples' Heritage Day, which was free to the community.

Students, families, staff, and neighbors descended on the Carson Middle School Wetlands Habitat Saturday morning prepared to rake leaves, pull weeds, remove unwanted vegetation, and prepare the habitat for winter.

A 52-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Thursday night for domestic battery first after allegedly “taking down” her husband following an argument about an ex-partner.

According to the report, deputies were dispatched to a residence on report of a domestic battery, and dispatch advised the man had possibly been cut with a knife by the woman.
