Following Elizabeth Warren’s trip to Northern Nevada for a Reno town hall on Tuesday, Nevada for Warren will open its latest field office in Carson City on Saturday, Dec. 14. This will be the Warren campaign's ninth announced office across the Silver State.

In this long life of mine, nothing looms larger in my memory than riding the perfect wave, well, almost nothing. I could have been a Nick Beck if I hadn't fallen off my board. I used to watch Nick and Joey Cabell surf Cannons off the north shore of Kauai, and wish I could surf like that.

A 34-year-old Carson City man was arrested Saturday for suspicion of multiple felony offenses including possession of counterfeit money and possession of debit and credit cards that did not belong to him, a sheriff's deputy report states.

The Carson City Sheriff's Office investigation division is asking for the public's help in identifying the suspect in an early Monday morning attempted burglary that happened at a Plaza Street automotive shop.

The Carson City School District was a point of highlight at the Nevada Association of School Boards annual conference in Reno, the weekend prior to Thanksgiving. The school district and trustees hauled in nearly a quarter of all the awards (4 out of 19) among the 17 districts statewide.

The spirit of the Christmas season was alive in the streets of downtown Carson City on Friday and Saturday nights. The first three photos are of the Silver and Snowflakes Festival of Lights celebration and were taken by Lynn McCarthy. The final set of photos, taken by Cathleen Allison of Nevada Momentum, are of Saturday night's Holiday Crawl, in support of the Holiday with a Hero campaign. Carson City Court Appointed Special Advocates, also known as CASA, are trained volunteers who represent the best interests of children who have been abused or neglected.

CASA volunteers are appointed by a Judge and serve as the voice of the child in the courtroom. The CASA volunteer helps to ensure that the children are in safe, permanent and thriving environments.

The 2020 Denim and Diamonds fundraiser is set for Saturday, Feb. 29 at Casino Fandango's Grand Ballroom in Carson City. All proceeds benefit Austin's House, our local non-profit children's shelter. The shelter cares for children ages infant to 18 who have been removed from their homes due to neglect or abuse.

A 53-year-old Carson City man was arrested for alleged felony and misdemeanor offenses including domestic battery, dissuading a victim from calling 911, habitual criminal with three prior convictions, possession of a controlled substance, threats, and a Department of Alternative Sentencing hold.

The Nature Conservancy in Nevada, in partnership with the Nevada Division of Natural Heritage and the Desert Research Institute, recently completed the Nevada Wetland Rapid Assessment Method, a draft assessment protocal developed as a product of a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency grant awarded to NDNH.

CARSON CITY — Recently, the United States Department of Agriculture announced two proposed changes, and one final rule change, to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program which serves more than 400,000 Nevadans.

The Orchestra Program of Carson City School District is holding its Holiday Concert Dec. 17 at 6:30 p.m. at the Carson City Community Center. Just the idea of a concert in Carson City is exciting enough, but it gets even better because this musical event will cost audiences absolutely nothing except a little time and effort getting there. Air Force stripped a potential win away from Nevada on Saturday, as the Falcons walked out of the Virginia Street Gym victorious 68-61.

We invite you to register for “Holiday Craft Camp,” which will have your kids creating Holiday arts, perfect for gifting to friends and families. Camp is at the Brewery Arts Center, 449 W. King St.

The annual Empty Bowls fundraising night is underway and will continue throughout Saturday night.

Empty Bowls is an “international grassroots effort” to fight hunger around the world.

In our local community, volunteers work throughout the year to create handcrafted bowls. Each year, hundreds of bowls are crafted in Carson City for the purpose of the fundraiser.

Santa Clause is coming to town!

SUNDAY UPDATE: Traffic along College Parkway and Lompa Lane was diverted briefly early Sunday afternoon due to horse herd moving across the roadway. One of the horses was said to be severely injured. Wild horse advocates have been contacted.

Just before noon on Saturday, deputies were alerted one of Carson City’s local wild horse herds were causing a bit of a traffic issue along College Parkway by the Sonic.

A 29-year-old Carson City man and a 25-year-old Carson City man were arrested for multiple felonies including burglary, possession of a stolen fire arm, possession of burglary tools, and more.

If there is one lesson that 2019 has taught me, it’s that I can’t do it alone. I can’t generate business alone. I can’t work myself through that tough day alone. I can’t do my life alone. Life and business require support. Yet, so many people are afraid to ask for help. They see it as a burden that they have a need. Or, like me, they are just too stubborn to reach out for fear of looking weak or incapable.

The Silver and Snowflakes Festival lit up the Capitol building with the annual tree lighting with help from Carson City’s fifth graders.

The grinch stopped by to help conduct, and free carriage rides went on throughout the afternoon and evening starting at 4:30 in front of the Capitol building.

September 11, 1937 – December 3, 2019

Jean Hamilton passed away peacefully surrounded by family, Tuesday Dec. 3rd.
Jean married Bud Hamilton on December 22, 1956 in Lindsey, California. They moved to Carson City, Nevada in 1972. Jean always wanted to be a nurse and went to nursing school as soon as all her kids were in school. She enjoyed a 37 year career as a Registered Nurse, with the majority of it spent at Carson Tahoe Hospital. Everyone who worked with her, or were under her care, said she was truly the best nurse.

Two vehicles were involved in a collision just before 3:30 p.m. Friday afternoon. Traffic is blocked and motorists should avoid the area if possible.

On December 5, 2019 Carson City Elks Lodge #2177 Exalted Ruler Bruce Jurgensen, along with PER Kent Mayer, presented dictionaries to 76 third graders at Empire Elementary School.

This is the 3rd constitutive year that the Lodge has presented dictionaries to local third graders.

As of 1:10 p.m. on Friday, there is an object in the roadway that is creating a hazard in the area of Edmonds and Koontz in the Southbound lane.

Deputies are on their way to resolve the issue.
Motorists should avoid the area or use caution.

I've got to say, I have lived in Carson City all my life and this past week is the most fog I have ever seen in our capital. It led to some pretty scary road conditions for some, but it also led to some great photo opportunities.

Nevada's own Vegas Golden Knights will be hosting Hockey Clinics at Schools in Carson City on Friday, Dec. 13, and a Watch Party is scheduled at the Governor’s Mansion to see the Knights Play the Dallas Stars.

The Carson City School District will hold its next School Board Meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 10 beginning at 7 p.m. in the Sierra Room of the Carson City Community Center, located at 851 E. William Street.

The meeting with begin with the Superintendent’s Report, which includes the Seeliger Choir Holiday Performance, Recognition of Ms. Jennifer Cherpeski for her years of service on the Family Life Committee, and general announcements.

Featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Alysia Peters, Northern Nevada Political Director for the Biden for President campaign. Following her presentation, she will field questions from Democrats still undecided ahead of February's precinct caucuses.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of holiday events around the Carson City region over the next three days. Events include the Silver and Snowflake Festival of Lights, the 24th annual Parade of Lights in Gardnerville, the annual Project Empty Bowls dinner held at the Carson Mall, a Holiday Crawl in downtown Carson City and much more! Carson City Fire Department, the Nevada Highway Patrol and sheriff's deputies were called late Thursday afternoon to a vehicle crash near the intersection of Highway 50 East and Fairview Drive.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office Investigation Division is attempting to locate a 74-year-old man, reported missing, who was last seen Saturday, Nov. 30.

The Carson City National Night Out event held in August has been awarded third in the nation among communities with a population of 50,000 to 100,000. Significantly, Carson City was the only Nevada jurisdiction to receive an award this year.

With a weekend of Christmas holiday events across the Carson City region, it looks like Mother Nature will be active with valley rain beginning late Friday and feet of snow in the Sierra through Sunday.

With family activities making up the Christmas tree lighting at the capitol on Friday night, Saturday night is reserved for grownups who are invited to take a festive walk through downtown Carson City and make stops and their favorite restaurants and bars as part of a community fundraiser for local schoolchildren who are without permanent homes.

Celebrating the holidays around Carson City is a magic and glorious time, where the community comes together to celebrate and to give through several charity functions. Many in the community are grateful to have a roof over their head and food to eat without much of a struggle. But unfortunately for many families and individuals, having regular meals doesn't come easy.
