Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space invites the community to the inaugural Homestead Holidays event at Silver Saddle Ranch, Dec. 13-15, 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. each night. Homestead Holidays is intended to be an old-fashioned holiday celebration with handcrafted decorations, holiday lights ornamenting historic ranch buildings, and family activities for all ages.

Observant travelers in Northern Nevada are reporting numerous reindeer sightings along the 85 mile stretch of US 395 between Bordertown, on the north, and Lake Topaz, on the south.

The Willow Reindeer herd now has 3,000 individually crafted works of art. Each reindeer has been signed by the local elementary students that have created it over the past 22 years. With an average of 20 students per class, there have been over 60,000 local children involved in the massive local art project.

A 38-year-old Mound House woman was arrested Wednesday, in the 1400 block of South Carson Street, for misdemeanor suspicion petit larceny and gross misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia, a Carson City sheriff's report states.

According to the arrest report, deputies responded to a business where a store manager alerted to a woman wearing several coats who had fled the store after stealing several items of merchandise.

The Lyon County Utilities Department discovered a note Tuesday that threatened the sanctity of a well site in the Dayton water service area. Utilities staff notified the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office and a criminal investigation was initiated, said County Manager Jeff Page.

Carson City was awarded a historic landmark suffrage marker honoring Felice Cohn, a Carson City native who made significant contributions to women’s rights in Nevada. The unveiling of the historic landmark is scheduled for Dec. 10, 2019 at 1 p.m. The landmark will be unveiled in front of the Legislature, adjacent to Carson St. near the crosswalk to McFadden Plaza, previously known as 3rd St.

A 50-year-old flooding issue in a Carson City neighborhood could finally see a solution with the “North Carson Area Drainage Plan” proposed by Carson City Public Works.

According to Robert Fellows, P.E., Chief Stormwater Engineer for Public Works, an issue involving flooding or “ponding” in a particular Carson City neighborhood has been on the books as an issue since Carson City was still Ormsby County, going back to the 1970s.

A Carson City man was arrested Tuesday for multiple offenses related to a standoff that happened at a Morgan Mill Road residence in which multiple shots were fired inside and outside a home that was occupied by a 73-year-old woman, a sheriff's deputy report states.

Carson City Fire Department knocked down a structure fire Tuesday afternoon that ignited outside of a garage in the 2500 block of Larry Circle near Dori Way. No injuries were reported.

Since 1988, the Silver and Snowflakes Festival of Lights has heralded in Carson City’s holiday season. The festival has grown from a simple tree lighting on the capitol grounds to involving the entire downtown core attracting thousands to enjoy this very special event.

Christmas came early for the Marines of the Mountain Warfare Training Center in the Coleville, Bridgeport area of Mono County on Sunday as volunteers from Carson City area's Sierra Lutheran High School and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes delivered donated Christmas trees to the troops there.

UPDATE: Carson City Sheriff's Office responded and its SWAT was called Tuesday morning to a Morgan Mill residence after a man began shooting inside a home where his 73-year-old grandmother was hiding. The suspect is now in custody.

The female who was hiding is safe and was not injured in the incident, said Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong.

Starting Tuesday, the Carson City Fire Department will be conducting wildland fuels reduction prescribed burn operations in Vicee Canyon in the Timberline area. Burning operations will occur on a 24-hour basis and will be manned with trained firefighters the entire duration.

The familiar neon “BAR” sign that welcomed diners to the well-known Café at Adele’s restaurant in Carson City for decades, has been removed, but it didn’t stay dark long. It’s red neon glow now welcomes diners to Js’ Old Town Bistro in Dayton.

Snow days, snow way. At least that's what the weather forecast calls for Tuesday. We'll see mostly cloudy skies before another chance of rain or snow arrives midweek and then a larger storm in time for the weekend. As the saying goes of Nevada weather: Wait a minute and it will change. It is also #GivingTuesday. If you have a favorite organization, it's a good time to send a few dollars their way. MINDEN — With the first round of winter storms, Douglas County Public Works is busy plowing, salting and clearing to keep our roads safe. Winter is just starting and can bring harsh and ever-changing weather conditions. Douglas County has a snow removal policy which determines how and when County roads are plowed.

The Salvation Army’s Red Kettles — a holiday tradition that has served as a symbol of goodwill for more than 100 years — is in need of additional "Kettle Workers" at its locations throughout the Carson City region.

Carson City Ward 2 Supervisor Brad Bonkowski will host “Breakfast with Brad” Friday, December 6 from 7 to 8 a.m. at the Cracker Box restaurant. All Carson City residents are invited to share coffee and conversation about the city.
