Joe Biden's campaign in the spotlight at Monday's Carson City Democratic luncheon
Featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Alysia Peters, Northern Nevada Political Director for the Biden for President campaign. Following her presentation, she will field questions from Democrats still undecided ahead of February's precinct caucuses.
Alysia Peters has spent more than 12 years in Nevada politics and policymaking. In 2007, she began her involvement in legislative affairs as a full-time UNLV-sponsored intern for Senate Minority Leader Dina Titus. Senator Titus invited Alysia to serve as the lead researcher and advocate for women's health bill SB 409, which was signed into law by Governor Gibbons in June of 2007.
Following that legislative session, Alysia spent a semester in India studying international affairs, which gave her a global perspective on the political process. Upon her return to the US, Alysia worked as Campaign Coordinator for State Senator Valerie Wiener’s final race, and fellowed on Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign.
Upon completing her Political Science degree, Alysia went on to earn her Master of Public Administration at UNLV in 2010. During her graduate work, she came to appreciate the value of doing what she was learning about. Her extracurricular engagement included teaching a senior-level undergraduate Ethics in Government course, interning at the office of the Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid with the Democratic Policy Committee, and serving as the Associate State Director for Communities In Schools of Nevada.
In 2012, Alysia relocated to Carson City so she could accept a position as Executive Assistant to the Secretary of the Nevada State Senate. In this capacity, she provided administrative support to senators and their staffs, and served as an alternate on the Senate's front desk during the 2013 session. During her tenure, she also served as program coordinator for the Nevada Youth Legislature, SENarts, and uLegislate.
Beginning in 2015, Alysia followed her entrepreneurial dream by opening We Olive & Wine Bar in Reno, in the Redfield Promenade shopping center across South Virginia from Olive Garden. She still owns and operates this business. Never far from the electoral fray, in 2016 she signed on as field director of the Save Our Schools Washoe ballot initiative, which won fifty-six percent voter support in that year's general election.
In January 2017, Alysia was hired by Rowe Law Group as a policy analyst for the 2017 legislative session. In 2018, she was promoted to Director of Policy and Public Affairs, and during the 2019 legislative session she was on the ground in Carson City lobbying for a diverse complement of Rowe clients, from the Nevada System of Higher Education, One Nevada Credit Union and Prominence Health Plans to Tesla, The Boring Company, Boyd Gaming and Allegiant Airlines. In August 2019, she departed Rowe Law Group to become Northern Nevada Director of the Biden for President campaign, in which capacity she will be speaking at Monday's luncheon.
This event is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. on Monday, December 9th, at the Carson City Round Table Pizza, 3325 Retail Drive just off College Parkway. Sponsored by the Democratic Men’s Committee, these luncheons help keep the lights on at Carson City’s Democratic HQ. An all-you-can-eat pizza and salad bar lunch buffet is available for $7.99. Water is free, extra charge for fountain drinks. Suggested donations of $5 or more gratefully accepted but are not required. All are welcome.
