Carson City's annual Project Empty Bowls dinner happening this Saturday at Carson Mall
Celebrating the holidays around Carson City is a magic and glorious time, where the community comes together to celebrate and to give through several charity functions. Many in the community are grateful to have a roof over their head and food to eat without much of a struggle. But unfortunately for many families and individuals, having regular meals doesn't come easy.
For those who are less fortunate — who may struggle financially to raise a family and don't have a permanent place to call their home other than a motel room — food insecurity is a reality.
Friends in Service Helping, also known as F.I.S.H., continues to work to make certain those living in our community will not have to experience food insecurity, described by the USDA as a state in which “consistent access to adequate food is limited by a lack of money and other resources at times during the year.”
FISH and Carson Mall invites all Carson City residents to join them in the fight against hunger by enjoying a warm bowl of soup and bread made by local restaurants that is served up in handmade ceramic bowls made by individuals, organizations and schoolchildren throughout the year.
The event is at Carson Mall, 1313 South Carson Street, this Saturday, Dec. 7, from 3 to 8 p.m. Last year drew more 1,000 community members to this annual meal.
Raising hunger awareness and fighting food insecurity has become a Carson City tradition. Hundreds of these handcrafted bowls are created by our community each year. All are invited to select one of those unique bowls and join friends and neighbors for a delicious, savory and simple meal. You can take your bowl home as a reminder that there are Empty Bowls in our community.
Tickets are $15 at the door or can be purchased at Ogres-Holm Pottery or Magical Moments Photography inside the Carson Mall. All proceeds are donated to FISH. Follow the Facebook page here. You can also visit the website here to purchase tickets. Contact: 775-671-8150 for additional information.
