A 27-year-old Carson City jail inmate was booked Thursday for suspicion of battery by a prisoner following a fight Wednesday inside a detention center cell.

UPDATE 10:39PM: One suspect is in custody Friday night after surrendering to the Carson City Sheriff's Office MOST team following a standoff in the 1300 block of North Edmonds. Residents can return to their homes. There were no injuries and no shots were fired, said Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong.

The Carson City Sheriff's Office responded Friday evening to a person who barricaded himself in a residence after displaying an AK-47, according to Sherriff Ken Furlong.

Most anti-SLAPP — strategic litigation against public participation %u2013 cases are meant to be resolved within a few months. The lawsuit filed by a Nevada Department of Wildlife biologist against Lake Tahoe area bear advocates was just dismissed on an anti-SLAPP motion this week.

On Nov. 8, voters in Lyon County will decide on county Question 1 which would change two existing fire stations currently staffed with volunteers into full-time staffed firefighters-paramedics stations in the Central Lyon County Fire Protection District. The measure is designed to improve response times within the district.

The 28th Annual Pumpkin Patch at Seeliger Elementary School is this Saturday, Oct. 15, 2022, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Here’s some helpful information to know before you arrive:

A fire late Thursday night heavily damaged the historic Fox Hotel and two other buildings at the corner of Main and Gate Street in Dayton.

The featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Elizabeth Mercedes Krause, Democratic candidate for Nevada District 2 of the US House of Representatives. In the June 14 Democratic primary, Mercedes came in first with 47% of the vote out of a field of seven candidate. In the November 8 four-way general election, she will face off against Republican incumbent Mark Amodei as well as Independent American Russell Best and Libertarian Darryl Baber. Early voting begins on Saturday, October 22nd.

Candidate for Nevada Attorney General, Sigal Chattah, will be speaking at our next general meeting on October 19, 2022 at 5:30 pm. See flyer for details.

Capital Kids will be holding a Parents Night Out at the Carson City Community Center for children in kindergarten to 5th grade from 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 14.

Join the Dayton Branch Library on Friday, Oct. 21 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., for their annual trunk or treat event! This year is sure to delight as the library is expecting to fill their parking lot with over 30 decorated trunks!

Dress up the kiddos and pups in their finest Halloween costumes and come to MidTown Marketplace on Friday October 28th from 3pm-7pm for a fun indoor and free Trick Or Treating event. We have over 30 vendor booths that are decorated and supplied with goodies for both kids and dogs. Dogs must be leashed at all times. MidTown Marketplace is located at 104 Corbett St, in Carson City.

If you haven't already visited Carson Ridge Disc Golf Park & Interpretive Trails on Rifle Range Road, this coming Sunday is the best time to check it out. All are welcome! The Park's 18 hole Stadium course is the No. 1 ranked course in Nevada and the region on the Udisc App.

An unknown device found at a storage facility shed in the area of Saliman and 5th Street in Carson City prompted a precautionary evacuation of homes in the area early Thursday afternoon, according to Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong.

October is a wonderful month as the days get shorter, the nights are cooler, the leaves are exploding in color and, of course, the annual Nevada Day Treasure Hunt is underway. The latest clue is below.

On Thursday, the Nevada Department of Transportation will launch an enhanced 511 NV Travel Information system providing improved Nevada highway information.

The Carson City Host Lions Club will celebrate the 90th anniversary of its founding on Saturday, Oct. 15 at the Gold Dust West Hotel and Casino with a Gala and banquet. Special guest speaker, Past International Director George L. “Mick” Barrus, will address the group.

The Nevada Artists Association is accepting entries for the Nevada Day Show on October 22 from 10AM-1PM.
