Fire overnight causes heavy damage at Fox Hotel, two other buildings in Dayton
A fire late Thursday night heavily damaged the historic Fox Hotel and two other buildings at the corner of Main and Gate Street in Dayton.
Central Lyon Fire advised the fire was reported at 11:42 p.m. Thursday night. Central Lyon Fire Chief Rich Harvey said the Fox Hotel and two adjacent buildings had significant damage. No injuries were reported.
There were occupants at the time of the fire in the Fox Hotel, said Chief Harvey. The occupants were accounted for and evacuated. The nearby Union Hotel was not damaged.
The preliminary investigation shows the fire started immediately in a building east of the Fox Hotel. The cause is under investigation.
Central Lyon Fire Chief Harvey said Carson City Fire Department sent its ladder truck, which got an elevated master stream of water on the fire. He also said that the Central Lyon Fire volunteer firefighters provided solid support in the firefighting efforts. The fire was knocked down after about an hour.
The Dayton fire happened less than 24 hours after a fire caused significant damage to a historic building on Carson City's west side early Thursday morning. That fire is also under investigation.
We will update as more information becomes available.
