An unknown device found at a storage facility shed in the area of Saliman and 5th Street in Carson City prompted a precautionary evacuation of homes in the area early Thursday afternoon, according to Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong.
The Douglas County bomb squad has been contacted and will check the device to make sure it is not dangerous, said Furlong. The unknown device was discovered after 12 p.m.
There are no impacts to Carson City schools, according to the school district.
"The bomb squad will determine whether or not it is an explosive," said Furlong. "We are evacuating as a precaution."
The sheriff notes that contact has been made with the owner, who says it is not an explosive. The bomb squad is verifying.
