Fire overnight heavily damages historic building on Carson City's west side
UPDATE: A fire overnight severely damaged a North Minnesota Street building located in the west side of Carson City's historic district.
The fire happened at 340 North Minnesota Street, at the corner of West Telegraph and is occupied by Resource Concepts Inc., a civil engineering firm. It was reported at 12:06 a.m. Thursday morning.
According to Carson City Fire Chief Sean Slamon, no one was injured fighting the fire, which involved 24 firefighters, including mutual aid from Truckee Meadows Fire and East Fork Fire departments. The fire was under control at 1:39 a.m.
Slamon said firefighters arrived on scene and crews observed advanced and heavy fire conditions from the majority of the building. Firefighters quickly made entry into the building to search for any occupants trapped inside. The building was unoccupied.
Firefighters were able to protect adjacent structures and no other buildings were damaged, he said.
Due to firefighters aggressive actions they were able to save a section of the building from the fire, said Slamon. Damage is estimated to be over $500,000.
The cause is under investigation. Crews will remain on scene to extinguish hotspots that are in areas that are unsafe to reach, said Slamon.
The structure was built in 1906, and is known as the Lee-Guild home, which is on the Kit Carson Blue Line historic walk, said Slamon. More information on the home can be found here.
We will update as more information becomes available.
