What started as a small "Secret Santa" gift exchange six years ago among a group of Northern Nevada moms has blossomed into a powerful force for community betterment. These visionary women, driven by a shared bond and a passion for creating positive change, evolved their annual ladies' night out into the now widely recognized charity fundraiser — Mamas For A Cause.

Having worked on a crisis hotline years ago and have always wanted to highlight that stalking crime has many hidden hurts and harms, my intent is to raise awareness.

TAHOE CITY — An avalanche Wednesday morning at Palisades Tahoe ski area resulted in one fatality, the Placer County Sheriff's Office says, with three injuries, according to the resort.

UPDATE: Due to weather-related conditions, all schools in the Carson City School District will be closed for the entire day Thursday, Jan. 11, 2024, officials announced late Wednesday evening.

All employees and students should remain home. No student activities, afterschool programs or practices will occur, including remote instruction. No school services such as transportation, nutrition or student health will be provided.

Recently, Carson City residents have been contacted by scammers pretending to be the Carson City Sheriff’s Office employees. These scammers will tell the potential victims they have warrants for their arrest or they have missed jury duty.

The scammers will solicit personal information and then demand payment in some form, such as gift cards, cash applications, or bitcoin, to not be arrested.
