Local Lawyer and Former Carson City District Attorney Melanie Bruketta files candidacy for Justice of the Peace
“My entire career has been dedicated to serving the public, all here in Carson City,” said Bruketta. “First as a prosecutor and civil deputy district attorney in the Carson City District Attorney’s Office, and later as the Human Resources Director for Carson City, where I was responsible for understanding and applying employment and labor laws.”
A graduate of Carson High School, the University of Nevada, Reno, and Gonzaga School of Law, Melanie believes in both compassion – and accountability.
“Mistakes are a part of life, but crime and repetitious misdemeanors are unacceptable parts of a healthy community,” she added. “There are tremendous programs the city already has in place, from the mental health court program to MOST (Mobile Outreach Safety Team) with the Carson City Sheriff’s Office, dedicated to helping those in need. I believe I could play a role in identifying those individuals who could change their lives and feel good about themselves, if only they had the resources.”
A nearly life-long resident of Carson City and a mother of three, Bruketta has devoted her career to working for the residents of Carson City and understands the community’s needs that are addressed by the justice court.
“The justice court is one of the most important functions of local government, helping not only to keep the community safe, but also provide important resources to qualified individuals,” said candidate Bruketta. “I’m passionate about protecting individuals’ rights through accountability, integrity and fairness. Everyone deserves to be heard in the justice system, and I have proudly worked my entire career to build toward filling this critical role in our community.”
