On Wednesday, the Ormsby Republican Women's Club is honored to have Mayor Lori Bagwell as its speaker. Mayor Bagwell will be bringing club members up to date on everything happening in Carson City. She will provide an update on the city budget, upcoming projects and is always ready for your questions.

Tuesday, the Department of Health and Human Services has announced that Nevada is one of six states to receive a federal competitive grant for a pilot program to treat pregnant and postpartum women with a primary diagnosis of substance use disorder.

The Truckee Parks and Recreation Community Center opened a new traveling art exhibit called “We Remember Your Sacrifices; You Are Not Forgotten: The Story and Art of the Stewart Indian School.” This new display is a partnership between the Stewart Indian School Cultural Center & Museum; Nevada Indian Commission; Visit Carson City; and Great Basin Native Artists Collective.

What is identified as “The Orthodox Church” today is the original Christian Church established by Jesus Christ, handed down to His Twelve Apostles, and described in the pages of the New Testament. It was one Church until a split separated Orthodox East from Latin West in the eleventh century but the Orthodox Faith and practice has continued unaltered for two thousand years.

Two were arrested early Saturday for suspicion of felony battery causing substantial bodily harm, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.

Last week, The Nevada Women's Fund (NWF) awarded FISH their Annual Community Grant of $25,000.

This grant award will be devoted to the FISH Student Housing project and help alleviate the housing costs for women living within. This way, the women can focus on their higher education without the burden of housing costs which will empower their learning potential, uplift families out of generational poverty, and strengthen the community. This is a major recognition for FISH with Nevada Women's Fund's support of this first-of-its-kind Nevada pilot program.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office would like to welcome everyone into a new school year. The Carson City Sheriff’s Office School Resource Officers and Traffic Units will be teaming up to monitor and enforce all school zone laws for this school calendar year. KINGS BEACH — The Washoe Tribe has called Da-ow-a-ga — or as we know it, Lake Tahoe — their home for centuries, and two members of the tribe were at the 27th annual Lake Tahoe Summit held Wednesday to share the importance of the lake to their people.

My neighbor Patrick Mobley had an open house to display his model train layout. The open house happens around twice twice a year at his Pine Lane home in Carson City — one in summer and another, usually, in the fall.

Just after 7 p.m. Saturday evening, Sheriff Ken Furlong reported a shooting had occurred in the area of Lee and Roop Streets.

One victim self transported themselves to the hospital as a result of the shooting.

Joseph Edward William Lee Gibbs, 69, of Carson City, Nev. October 6th 1954 - May 24th 2023. Originally from New York State. Served in the United States Air Force during Vietnam. Settled in Carson City after working in various trades. He was an excellent cook and loved to prepare meals for his friends. In his last years he rededicated himself to the Lord.

The Carson Farmers Market brought their tradition back today with a celebratory market, put on in honor of National Farmers Market Week.

The market was located at Mills Park inside Marv Teixeira Pavillion until 1 p.m. The vendors had options of everything from fresh produce, to exotic meats, baked pastries, jams, honey, art, gems, live plants, and more! There were also food trucks with delicious treats like crepes and live music.

A traffic accident was reported just after 12:00 a.m. Saturday near the East College Parkway and Emerson Street. Traffic is currently blocked by at least three vehicles involved in the collision.

There is a head injury and wrist injury involved amongst the people in the vehicles.

Avoid the area if possible.

In an endeavor to aid the victims of the wildfires in Maui, the Nashville Social Club in Carson City, Nevada, is launching a series of fundraisers during the month of August, benefitting the Maui Strong fund of the Community Foundation of Hawai’i.

The first event kicks off this Saturday night, Aug. 12, when NSC will donate 10% of the proceeds from dinners purchased by patrons attending the "Most Wanted: Country Rock Burlesque Show" in the Swan Music Hall to the Maui Strong Fund.

The next Carson City Board of Supervisors meeting is expected to take place on Thursday, Aug. 17, beginning at 8:30 a.m. in the Robert ‘Bob’ Crowell Board Room in the Carson City Community Center, located at 851 E. William Street.

The main item of discussion is regarding the Lompa Ranch and Black Stone ranch. Other items of key discussion are listed after the ranches discussions.

Local teen golfer Luke Swanson qualified to play in two international golf tournaments this summer including the International Management Group Academy Junior World Golf Tournament and the U.S. Kids Golf World Teen Championships.

Both events bring top golfers from around the world to compete in three day tournaments that test both skill and mental determination.

The speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Courtney Warner, who has served as Executive Director of the Carson City Senior Center since 2015. In addition to Meals on Wheels and low-cost lunches at the Senior Center's dining room, programs she supervises include educational lectures, fitness and wellness initiatives, and resources for promoting a healthy, independent lifestyle.
