The speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Nicki Aaker, Director of Carson City Health and Human Services. Prior to her appointment in 2013, she was a senior manager at Carson City's Sierra Surgery Hospital. She holds both a Master of Science in Nursing and a Master of Public Health from the University of Nevada-Reno.

Carson City Health and Human Services protects and improves the quality of life for our community through disease prevention, education and support services. Their vision is to take the lead in providing our region with services that support healthy communities.

The Second Wind Thrift Store, operated by Carson City Senior Citizen’s Center, Inc. (CCSCC), a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, fell victim to this years unprecedented winter.

The building suffered substantial damage that is beyond repair and to maintain the safety of the public the building is scheduled to be demolished in the coming weeks.

Thursday, August 24, Silver Oak Senior Men’s Club held the second round of the annual two round Club Championship to determine the best golfer in the club over a field of 45 golfer.

The competition recognizes both a gross score and net score (with handicap factored in)winner and is played on two consecutive Thursdays.

A 32-year-old Reno man, Jerometroy Williamcecil Streeter-Moore was arrested for a felony domestic battery with strangulation warrant and a domestic battery first warrant Thursday morning.

According to the report, deputies were conducting traffic enforcement in front of a west side elementary school when they witnessed a vehicle conduct an illegal u-turn within the school zone.

Carson City Symphony Association invites children ages 4 to 12 to join the Symphony Youth Chorus (formerly Joyful Noise Carson Children’s Choir). On 8/12/23, the Carson City Sheriff’s Office responded to the area of Stewart St and Lee St in reference to a shooting. Detectives learned that a fight occurred in the area and Christopher Moreno chased another male, shooting at him. The victim was shot in the back as he was running away.

Currently, there is a critical shortage of foster parents in Carson City and the surrounding areas both for long-term foster parents and respite care foster parents, who take care of children for as little as a weekend while their foster parents take a trip.

According to the Division of Child and Family Services’ Rural Foster Recruiter Shelby Riley, there are currently only three beds open across Carson City, Dayton and Gardnerville.

UPDATE 5:25 p.m.: CCFD released the following:

Your Carson City Firefighters are currently on scene of another fire on the south west side of the city. A trailer was heavily involved in fire upon our arrival and was completely destroyed. Again, due to a rapid response crews were able to knock the fire down quickly and prevent it from spreading to the wildland and adjacent structures. A fire investigator is on scene.

UPDATE 5:10 p.m.: Curry is reopened but some side streets are still blocked.

UPDATE 4:46 p.m.: Curry St. has been blocked in both directions and blocked at Curry and Washoe St. due to a second brush fire.

At 1:18 p.m., a brush fire was reported in the area of Shoshone and Boyle streets in W. Carson City.

First responders are enroute to the scene. Motorists must seek alternate routes from Curry St. while responders are in the area.

As of 1:15 p.m. Thursday the southbound lanes of S. Carson St. are closed due to a crash in front of the Wells Fargo building.

Hello Fellow anglers. I have been on the road again up in Oregon. The salmon were running and we had to go.

Renee and I fished with my nephew Chris Hacker for 3 days on the mouth of the Rogue River. That, my fellow anglers, is trolling to the highest level.

There were approximately 75 boats in the area one third the size of Topaz Lake, fishing only five to ten feet apart, and I never saw a single person catch another line. A few times I did have to take my pole out of the holder from the side of the boat, so that I did not hit someone's pole going the other way.

Beginning August 28th, asphalt maintenance will begin on Eastgate Siding Road with completion expected in early October. The contractor will have traffic control measures in place; however, it is best to avoid the area off of Flint Drive.

The 2023-2024 youth bowling league sign-ups has opened for all three locations: Gold Dust West, Homegrown Bowling (formerly Carson Lanes Family Fun Center,) and Wink's Silver Strikes. Bowling will start on September 9 at all three houses.

Bowling is open to all abilities and ages 3-18* (*age as of August 1)

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office is seeking assistance from the public to identify two suspects for a fraud that occurred on June 30, 2023, (1730 hours) at Lowes (430 Fairview Drive) CCSO case #23-3939.

In collaboration with loss prevention personnel from Lowes, photo and video footage of the suspects were obtained. Photographs of the two female suspects can be seen above.

A 34-year-old Carson City man was arrested for indecent exposure and violating terms of his release after he showed his genitals to deputies.

On Thursday, the Carson City Board of Supervisors approved a tentative subdivision map for 204 new lots within the ongoing Lompa Ranch development.

On Thursday, the Carson City Board of Supervisors approved a new Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging Station Policy for the capital city.

Charging stations within Carson City are currently free to use for EV owners. However, with the new policy, utilization of the stations with cost a flat-rate per-hour fee.

The Reno Gem and Mineral Society will be presenting their 58th annual Jackpot of Gems Show at the Reno/Sparks Convention Center, September 16 & 17, 2023.

I’ve been watching my lemon cucumber leaves turn speckled, yellow, and then brown. Initially, I thought squash bugs were sucking the juices out. Those “particles” are actually tiny spider mites.
