SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. — It keeps snowing around Lake Tahoe, the Sierra, and down to lower elevations that don't normally see snow measured in "feet." A Winter Storm Warning is in place for the Lake Tahoe Basin until 1 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 28.

A 33-year-old Carson City man was booked Sunday for suspicion of felony home invasion and three misdemeanor offenses including domestic battery.

I-580 through Washoe Valley remained closed Monday morning from Bowers Mansion Exit 16 southbound to the Carson City side of Eastlake, northbound. There's no estimated time to reopen. Traffic is being diverted onto Alt Highway 395.

Carson City and Washoe County offices will remain open Monday with possible delays, while Douglas and Storey county offices are closed due to weather.

The next Carson City Board of Supervisors meeting will be held on Thursday, Dec. 30 beginning at 8:30 a.m. in the Sierra Room of the Community Center, located at 851 E. William Street.

CARSON CITY — All Nevada state government offices in Northern Nevada will be closed Monday due to weather conditions, according to the governor's office.

Damaging winds knocked down a large pine tree on West Washington Street in Carson City on Sunday afternoon, smashing a truck and narrowly missing the home, said Carson Now reader Mike Pauley.

No one was injured. The tree came down around 12:40 p.m. causing major damage to Pauley's truck and some damage around the garage's eves and gutter.

UPDATE MONDAY 7:30AM: I-580 through Washoe Valley remains closed, according to Nevada State Police, Highway Patrol division. It is unknown when it will open. Alt. 395 remains open with delays. For the latest road closures see NVroads.com. Troopers are advising motorists not to travel on area roadways from Reno through the Carson Valley. If motorists are traveling they should follow all chain control requirements and expect delays.

UPDATE 4:26PM: A 9-vehicle pileup was reported just before 4 p.m. on northbound I-580, north of the Carson onramp near Eastlake and Duck Hill Road, according to dispatch. Highway patrol has requested assistance from the Carson City Sheriff's Office.

UPDATE 3:18PM: Blowing snow continues to create icy road conditions throughout the Carson City area Sunday afternoon. I-580 remains closed through Washoe Valley. Alternative 395 remains open and is slow going. Multiple spinouts have happened throughout the day as well as reports of fallen trees and branches bringing down utility lines.

Elsewhere, a crash at 3:10 p.m. is blocking traffic on William Street near Mills Park. Motorists can expect delays and are advised to stay off the roads if possible.

UPDATE 1:19PM: Both directions of I-580 remain closed from Bowers area to Eastlake Boulevard in Washoe Valley following multiple vehicle crashes and spin outs, said Nevada State Police Trooper Charles Caster. Alternative 395 remains open, but non-essential travel is not advised due to weather conditions.

A winter storm blanketed much of western Nevada with snow overnight bringing a few inches to the Carson City area. While the snow is expected to taper some before picking up again Sunday night into Monday, strong winds will make for difficult travel conditions throughout the entire region.

Carson City Community Counseling Center, or CCC, has been helping those struggling with mental health or substance abuse issues in the capital city for 37 years. Now, they will be expanding their mission to serve their community by opening a 50 bed inpatient counseling facility on Fairview Dr. in the springtime.

It is no secret that the past two years have been difficult, not only emotionally but also financially to many local families. Christmas can bring joy and excitement to families facing hardships; it can also be a cause of great stress and concern.

On Christmas Eve at 2:56 p.m., the Carson City Sheriff’s Office received reports of a shooting at an apartment complex at 20 College Parkway, in North Carson.

With the Sierra slammed with several feet of snow, wind and snow are expected to arrive to the valley floors later this Christmas day afternoon, prompting the National Weather Service to issue a Winter Storm Warning now through Saturday night for much of western Nevada. As for Lake Tahoe and Sierra, the Winter Storm Warning continues through Tuesday morning.

UPDATE 10:49 a.m. Saturday: An update for this story can be found here. The resident who shot the deceased was released without pending charges after an investigation.

UPDATE 4:31 p.m.: The suspect is cooperating and investigators remain at the scene, according to Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong regarding the fatal shooting at 20 College Parkway. Interviews with the suspect have not concluded. It is believed that the altercation was "one-on-one" and the public is not in any danger.

Just before 3 p.m. Friday afternoon on Christmas Eve Carson City Sheriff's Office deputies and detectives were dispatched to a residence at the Parkway Plaza Apartments, located at 20 College Parkway in reference to a shooting with one male victim dead, according to Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong.

On Thursday night, a residence on S. Rainbow Drive was destroyed in a house fire.

The cause of the fire is at this time unknown. No fatalities have been reported.

The precautionary boil water notice issued for the Copper Canyon Estates in Dayton on December 22 is hereby rescinded.

Laboratory testing confirms the water is safe to drink.

The Sierra Avalanche Center in Truckee has issued a Backcountry Avalanche Watch for the Greater Lake Tahoe Basin through Monday at 7:00 a.m. with a period of Avalanche Warning with "high" danger during the period through Friday morning.

State corrections officials told a federal judge last week that they’re quickly running out time before a crucial lethal injection drug proposed for use in the execution of death row inmate Zane Floyd will expire.

On Wednesday morning, Carson City deputies were dispatched to a Fifth St. residence regarding a welfare check. Dispatch advised that a woman was being held against her will at that location.

The Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space division have secured $4.3 million in grant funding on two projects in East Carson City.
