A trifecta of local giving: Children's Christmas party celebration held at Carson City Elks Lodge
It was a giving trifecta that began in September when Carson City Elks Lodge No. 2177 donated $3,000 each to For Kids Foundation and Food for Thought from the Nevada State excess Major Project funds.
The For Kids Foundation serves children’s needs that fall between the cracks of government aid. Food For Thought serves children who live with food insecurity.
It was serendipitous in having the two organizations meet at the Elks Lodge for the check presentations as both discovered that the combined efforts would help more children in more ways.
They combined efforts again and partnered up with Carson City.
Elks Lodge No. 2177 and Emblem Club No. 507 held their annual Christmas Party for foster children. Carol Park, event chair, and a host of Elk and Emblem members donated, wrapped, cooked, visited and worked to make this a wonderful event.
The children and their foster families were served a kid friendly lunch including homemade cookies, followed by fun craft activities. Santa’s visit provided further enjoyment for the kids and a terrific holiday photo opportunity for the parents. Additionally, each child received a wrapped gift to take home to open on Christmas morning along with gift cards for the adults.
More than 50 foster children received brand new winter coats, underwear and socks. The coats were donated by Macy’s Dept. Store in Reno. The Elks and Emblem Club hold this annual event to thank all the Foster families out there that give so much of their time to enhance the lives of children at risk.
All four groups are now linked and committed to future endeavors to aid children in need in the Carson City and Reno area. Now that’s a trifecta!
