Strong winds topple trees, snap branches around Carson City
Damaging winds knocked down a large pine tree on West Washington Street in Carson City on Sunday afternoon, smashing a truck and narrowly missing the home, said Carson Now reader Mike Pauley.
No one was injured. The tree came down around 12:40 p.m. causing major damage to Pauley's truck and some damage around the garage's eves and gutter.
Since Sunday morning the wind has caused trees to topple and branches to snap onto structures, homes, fences and across roadways and utility lines. No injuries have been reported. There have been a few power outages as well, according to NV Energy.
Carson City, Reno and Carson Valley remain under a High Wind Warning through 10 p.m. Sunday night. The National Weather Service says winds will continue this evening from the southwest, 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 60 mph. Wind prone locations along US395/I580 could see gusts from 70 to 80 mph.
