Carson High School (CHS) Speech and Debate wrapped up its regular season over the weekend at Spanish Springs High School where the team completed its best season in decades. The final regular season tournament saw 14 schools and 203 competitors, with 11 CHS debaters advancing into final rounds over the two-day event.

Featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Sarah Adler, Principal at Silver State Government Relations. She will speak on behalf of the Nevada Housing Coalition, a group that works with legislators on policy solutions that address both the shortage of affordable and supportive housing and access to existing housing.

Affordable housing is defined by the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development as “Housing for which the occupants are paying no more than 30% of his or her income for gross housing costs.”

The Rotary Club of Carson City is looking for talented young musicians to take part in the club’s annual music contest.

The contest is open to students in the 9th-12th grades, or 14-18 years of age for home schooled or non-traditionally schooled students.

On Thursday, the Carson City Board of Supervisors discussed road funding sources, and instructed staff to create ballot measures, taking the decisions regarding increased taxation avenues to the voters.

The discussion began with a presentation, during which results of a roads assessment were produced.

On Monday, a woman was sentenced to 32.5 years in prison with parole eligibility at 12 years and four months in relation to a fentanyl drug sale charge in Oct. 2022.

According to the Douglas County District Attorney's office, Regina Rojas was arrested on Oct. 20 during which five Douglas County Sheriff Office deputies were allegedly exposed to fentanyl, one of which collapsed.

Four additional suspects related to the Jan. 24 Carmine Street shooting have been arrested following an investigation involving detectives from the Carson City Special Enforcement Team and Gang Unit, with the help of school resource officers.

The four suspects are 15-year-old male juveniles with gang affiliations, according to the Carson City Sheriff's Office in a news release.

Born in Reno to Twana Johnson and James Lingenfelter, she graduated from Carson High School and Heald College in Sacramento before starting her lifelong career with the State of Nevada. She is survived by her husband, Kerry, two children, Levi and Heather, and a grandson, Kaleb. She was an amazing wife, mother, and grandmother whose spirit will never be forgotten.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office recently got a boost from a local business owner. Carson City Country Financial agent Jim Gray donated $1,500 to the law enforcement agency’s K9 unit. The money funded the purchase a new dog bite suit used in training.
