A 25-year-old man was arrested Monday for suspicion of violation of an extended protection order for stalking and harassing, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.

Alternating directions of Interstate 580 will be reduced to one lane south of Reno beginning Wednesday, Sept. 13 as the Nevada Department of Transportation performs routine maintenance to prepare bridge anti-icing systems for winter.

UPDATE 1:50PM: The fire, which appears to be on Washoe Tribal land, was around a quarter acre in size, said Carson City Fire Department Battalion Chief Chris Mason. Growth control was stopped within five minutes of arrival, he said.

Carson City Fire Department and sheriff's deputies responded Monday afternoon to a brush fire in the area of Center Drive and Gibson Avenue in southeast Carson City.

Historic Virginia & Truckee Trail will host its first River to River Ride, a bicycle unsupported fun ride on Saturday, Sept. 16 at 8 a.m.

Riders may start at either Snyder Avenue in Carson City in front of the Stewart Indian School or at City Plaza in Reno. The ride is 43 miles (86 miles round trip) or rides can go as far as the wish and turn back.

For more than two decades, Christopher "Chris" Sneed has climbed up a rock outcropping off of US-50 West above Carson City, to plant a flag in honor of those who lost their lives on Sept. 11, 2001. My two apple trees are loaded with fruit this year. One is an old tree of unknown variety and the other is a "Red Delicious." The old tree is dropping apples all over the place. Some have a coral-colored blush; others are still greenish yellow.
