Another series of earthquakes rolled through Carson City Sunday morning, the largest being a magnitude 2.8 recorded at around 4:30 a.m. and centered southeast of town near the Mexican Dam Road area, according to the Nevada Seismological Laboratory.

CARSON CITY — Open dead-tree firewood cutting areas in Hope Valley and Leviathan and Poor Boy begins Monday, The Carson Ranger District and Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest announced.

Meanwhile, live-tree cutting areas will open on July 15. Areas include Beagle (Dog Valley area), Scotts Lake (south of Woodfords, Calif), and Thomas Creek Canyon (off of Mt. Rose Highway).

In the live-tree cutting areas, only designated trees may be cut and slash must be piled. Designated trees are described on the live-tree cutting area maps.

The new Miss Nevada who will go to the Miss America contest in Atlantic City Sept. 15 is 19-year-old Diana Sweeney, Miss Carson City. Her hometown is Moundhouse but she attends UNR, where she is tackling a dual major in math and education.

High octane throttle therapy, chrome and the roar of motorcycles, hot rods, trucks and old car classics will highlight Carson City downtown during Legends of the West Bike and Car Fest, June 21-22.

This jubilee celebrates all things that make the open road a call to the wild side, showcasing incredible hot rods, classic cars, and plenty of motorcycles. Activities feature live entertainment, a Show and Shine, raffles, expanded cruise parade, breakfast, awards, and plenty of dining, hydration and refreshment opportunities.

CARSON CITY — Fans of the movie “Twelve Angry Men” will delight in Proscenium Players’ stage-play version of it, “Twelve Angry Jurors.”

Director Heidi Hampton has chosen to balance male and female roles and set the stage play, to be performed at the Silver State Charter School’s Performing Arts Theatre, in a time period when women were first allowed to sit on a jury.

Dozens of aircraft were on display Saturday at the annual Carson City Airport Open House. The annual aviation show featured teams of pilots and a variety of aircraft from around the West.

Attended by several thousand, the all-ages event brought vendors, families and scores of aviation fans to Carson City. Children enjoyed free airplane rides and the Kiwanis Club hosted a pancake breakfast.

Hey Carson City, grab your favorite swimsuit and get ready to strut your stuff to win more than a $1,000 in cash and prices.

The next Red, White and Blue Barbecue at the Carson Nugget in Carson City will feature a Men and Women’s Swimsuit Contest during the June 29th day-long barbecue from 1 to 7 p.m. The contest will be held from 2-5:30 p.m. with the finals being held inside the casino at the Show Bar beginning at 5:30 p.m.

All signups will receive a free barbecue plate. Because the barbecue is a family event, there are ground rules regarding the competition:

Care Flight was ordered late Saturday morning for an injured bicyclist found near Hobart Lake, northwest of Carson City.

Search and Rescue and Carson City Fire Department used ATV and brush vehicles to get into the area, which is in rough terrain. Dispatch was alerted to the injured cyclist at 11:08 a.m., who was said to have a back injury.

Care Flight was ordered at 11:48 a.m., once rescue personnel were able to make contact with the victim. The helicopter was to land in an area near the scene of the accident, about a quarter mile from the lake.

CARSON CITY — The Nevada Rural Counties Retired Senior Volunteer Program Board of Directors has appointed Susan Haas as Interim Executive Director and CEO. Haas began work with the organization in 2007 as Program Director then was promoted in 2012 to Director of Development.
