With Flag Day ceremonies across the state and throughout the nation, the Carson City Elks Lodge No. 2177, in partnership with the Carson City Emblem Club. 507, celebrated its annual American Flag Day ceremony Friday. Guests were given a historical presentation of the flag and its importance as the symbol of our country.

The following food inspection report is made weekly by the Carson City Health and Human Services Environmental Health Division. It also includes a motel inspection. This report is for the week ending June 14, 2013.

Inspections include: ball field concession stands, a mobile food vehicle, convenience stores, snack bars, retail grocery stores, bars, a cabaret, lounges, nonprofit agency food facility, caterers and restaurants.

It's going to be a very busy Saturday in Carson City with so much to do for every age group. An event women will love is the Designer Purse Sale sponsored by the Carson City Senior Citizens Center between 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Women can never have enough purses and this will be a way to have some incredible purses at a fraction
of the retail cost. All funds raised help provide meals for our local senior citizens. The Senior Center has served nearly 92,000 meals in their FY 2011-2012.

The senior center is located at 911 Beverly Drive.

With April unemployment stats showing more Carson City residents finding employment following statewide recessionary woes from 2008 to 2011, the hope of more hiring opportunities will be in the spotlight today, Friday, at a second Carson City job fair.

Around 50 employers will be on hand from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Carson City Community Center. Among the employers will be those representing area casinos, local manufacturers, home health, home improvement outlets, department stores, retail, banking, staffing agencies and restaurants.

Two men were arrested early Friday morning in the 1800 block of Long Street in Carson City and face multiple charges, including battery on police officers and resisting arrest. A 20-year-old Carson City man later told officers both had been under the influence of LSD and marijuana.

According to the arrest report, deputies were dispatched to the area of 1800 East Long Street late Thursday night after reports came in of a man screaming and stating he had a bloody nose.

The aviation community soars again at the Carson City Airport this Saturday with its "Flight Plan for the Future" open house — a family favorite among airplane, aircraft and aerospace enthusiasts of all ages.

The annual free event runs from 8:00 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Carson City Airport, 2600 College Parkway. More than 4,000 visitors attended in 2012, and this year’s open house promises plenty of excitement with dozens of aircraft on display and FREE plane rides for children 8-17 years of age.

Two former Western Nevada College baseball players may soon meet again, in the 2013 College World Series.

North Carolina State relief pitcher Andrew Woeck and Oregon State reliever Brandon Jackson are also among a growing number of former Wildcats student athletes who made it to the College World Series after also playing in the JUCO World Series in Grand Junction, Colo., a year earlier.

Lyon County will receive $1.9 million from the U.S. Department of Interior for revenue generated on public land, Sen. Harry Reid announced Thursday. Douglas County will receive $615,397 and Carson City $116,138.

Statewide funds totaling $23.3 million will be received from from the Department, which collects about $14 billion in revenue annually from commercial activities on federal lands, such as oil and gas leasing, livestock grazing and timber harvesting.

A 38-year-old Carson City man faces a felony sexual assault charge, admitting to investigators that he committed the crime against a 16-year-old girl.

Joaquin Canales-Montes is being held on $100,000 bail. He was arrested Tuesday after agreeing to a voluntary interview by Carson City Sheriff's Office investigators. The crime happened in the 3000 block of Airport Road around 12:30 a.m. Tuesday, he told officers after he was read his Miranda rights and agreed to speak.

Carson Now is withholding information to protect the victim.
