With tens of thousands of people in Carson City last weekend for local events including Taste of DownTown, the Carson City Airport Open House and the Father's Day Powwow, law enforcement arrest records show a relatively quiet weekend.

"We had an excellent weekend and it goes to show that when there are positive family and community events happening around town, the amount of crimes reported falls very low from all points, north to south, east to west and downtown," said Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong.

On June 19th, Lt. Jeff Melvin will be promoted to the grade of Captain at the Carson City Sheriff’s Office. His promotion signals a milestone completion pursued by Sheriff Furlong since 2003 of having his top front line leadership positions in the department to successfully complete the FBI National Academy (FBINA), thus the promotion from Lieutenant to Captain. The esteem accomplishment of the academy is one of the most prestigious law enforcement alumni in the country.

Carson City seniors are invited to celebrate the beginning of summer at a tropical themed Senior Mingle on Thursday, June 20 at The Lodge Assisted Living Community.

Area seniors can “GoGoNuts” while enjoying the party atmosphere in the Lodge’s Ballroom and Dining Hall from 2 to 4pm. Party goers will enjoy music by the Music Man Larry Elliot, tropical food, and fun games. Plus everyone is entered into a raffle for great prizes.

Carson City authorities investigating a possible arson at a condominium this morning arrested the woman who lived at the residence on a felony drug charge. Ginnie Heidt, was arrested at 4:45 a.m. Tuesday in the 200 block of Allouette Way.

According to the arrest report, officers investigating the fire insider Heidt's condominium made contact with her where she told authorities she was not aware of a fire at her residence but that she was informed earlier in the morning from a friend of hers that something bad happened there but that he provided no information.

The local Veterans Affairs Sierra Nevada Health Care System has hired 12 new mental health professionals to better serve local veterans. The VA says the new clinical positions will allow veterans to schedule appointments before or after work and on weekends.

Carson City’s 50/70 All Star baseball team, is representing the State of Nevada in the inaugural national All Star tournament in Irvine, Calif.

The tournament is from July 19th thru July 26th. In order for the team to make the trip they are looking for sponsors to help pay for expenses. They are also going to have a car wash at Carson Dodge Chrysler Jeep, on June 29, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Carson City Sheriff's Office reports an uptick in vehicle burglaries around town and asks residents to take pro-active measures to avoid becoming victims.

According to Sgt. Darrin Sloan, the sheriff's office looks at each case to identify patterns to help thwart this type of crime, but lately, patterns are not showing themselves.

There are, however, numerous vehicle burglary cases that have aspects in common, including unlocked doors, open windows and valuables left in plain view, said Sloan in a news release.

Dry, windy conditions for the Carson City region will develop late today and early Tuesday as low pressure moves into the Pacific Northwest this week, according to the National Weather Service. A Red Flag Warning will go into effect beginning Tuesday at noon because of the wind that will cause critical fire weather conditions.

A portion of the Carson City Freeway will be closed Monday beginning at 8 p.m. and running through 6 a.m. Tuesday morning, city officials said.

The Carson City Freeway will be closed from the U.S. Highway 50 East/William Street interchange to the Fairview Drive interchange because of maintenance.

Detours will be signed routing southbound freeway traffic west on William Street and south on to Carson Street. If necessary, the freeway will be closed Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, during the same hours, until the project is complete.
