CARSON CITY — Nevada's program to provide college scholarships to deserving students will continue through 2018, with a $15 million cash infusion to the Gov. Guinn Millennium Scholarship program, State Treasurer Kate Marshall announced this week.

Tickets are still available for the capital city's premiere summer event, the 20th annual Taste of DownTown Carson City, which returns Saturday with a feast for foodies that stretches 13 blocks.

More than 40 restaurants and ten live bands are on tap for this favorite Northern Nevada event to benefit Advocates to End Domestic Violence.

UPDATE 8:05PM: State Route 207 Kingsbury Grade is now open to motorist with controls. Please use caution around firefighters and equipment that remain working the fire.
Fire personnel will remain on scene to gain further containment of this fire. The cause of this fire is still under investigation.

Food For Thought seeks service groups or individuals to help with their Saddle Up For Kids Carnival on June 29.

They are in need of service groups/organizations/individuals to run carnival game booths. The booths run from 10 am to 5 pm on Saturday, June 29 at Mills Park and they need afternoon help from 1:30-5:30. They are also in need of help to teardown from 5-6:30.

Share your voice, gifts and talents in an active and positive way. Share your interest in events, arts and culture, promotions and business activity.

An area of low pressure moving into the Pacific Northwest will increase winds today throughout the Carson City region, producing gusts of 35 to 45 mph from late this morning and into this evening, according to the National Weather Service.

CARSON CITY — On late Tuesday, Gov. Brian Sandoval signed a bill that will create a tax incentive program to lure film productions to Nevada.

Introduced by Sen. Aaron Ford, Senate Bill 165 would provide up to $20 million in tax breaks for production companies that spend at least 60 percent of their money toward making movies in Nevada.

Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong recently returned from a national conference in Atlanta where experts from around the country discussed how to prevent people from committing mass casualty attacks. Furlong was asked to talk about the shooter who opened fire and killed four at the Carson City IHOP in 2011.
