Care Flight was called Wednesday afternoon following a crash involving a motorcycle and a vehicle in Carson City. The crash was reported at 3:41 p.m. at Highway 50 East and Empire Ranch Road near the satellite post office.

Care Flight is transporting the motorcycle rider from the Carson City Airport to Renown Medical Center in Reno.

The condition of the rider is unknown. Nevada Highway Patrol also responded as well as the Carson City Fire Department and Carson City Sheriff's Office deputies.

Two California women stopped by Carson City Sheriff's Office deputies on Tuesday have admitted to a scheme of using stolen credit cards to buy hundreds of dollars worth of gift cards.

Markeisha Yvette Orviss, 22, and Kamesha Joann Cooper, 24, of Pittsburg, Calif., were arrested by Carson City sheriff's patrol officers in the 3900 block of South Carson Street at 12:15 p.m.

A 56-year-old Carson City woman was sentenced to prison Tuesday after embezzling at least $140,000 as office manager of a Carson City company formerly owned by actor Kevin Costner.

On Tuesday, District Court Judge James Wilson sentenced Barbara Jean Larson to 24 to 72 months in prison on a charge of embezzlement and 12 to 30 months on a charge related to defrauding the State of Nevada, Employment Security Division.

A 45-year-old Carson City woman who pled guilty in April to drug charges was sentenced Tuesday to 48 months in prison, with minimum parole eligibility after 12 months, for transporting methamphetamine.

The Tri-Net Narcotics Task Force received a tip Aug. 23, 2012, that Janna Hinsen, who had an active warrant, was staying at a location in Carson City, and would be picking up methamphetamine that day.

CARSON CITY — The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has awarded Nevada's Department of Public Safety Emergency Management a $3.4 million grant, an increase of $700,000 given to the state in a similar grant awarded in 2012, officials announced Tuesday.

“I am pleased Nevada has been awarded this grant, with an increase,” said Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval. “I thank Secretary Napolitano for her work and I thank NDEM for facilitating work around the state to ensure that these funds are applied to areas of importance that Nevada public safety officials deem critical.”

More court dates have been set for former Nevada Assemblyman Steven Brooks on charges stemming from a freeway chase that ended in a violent struggle with California police in March.

Brooks, 41, is now scheduled for a pre-preliminary hearing July 16, and a preliminary hearing July 18 in Victorville, Calif.
