A distracted driver ran into a power pole, knocking out power to two buildings and some sections of streets Saturday morning in Carson City.
According to the Carson City Sheriffs Office, the accident happened at 5th Street and Allouette Way in Carson City.

Carson City residents Ila Bottoms, Arnold Flores, Leana Garcia, Allison Blair, and Janae Johnston-Bucker are five of 14 students recently awarded a $1,000 scholarship certificate from Greater Nevada Credit Union.

Seventy students throughout northern Nevada applied for the scholarship program, which GNCU has offered for the past 14 years. Bottoms and Flores are attending Western Nevada College; Garcia is attending Great Basin College in Elko; Blair and Johnston-Bucker will be attending the University of Nevada, Reno.

Here is the Carson City road construction and repair report for the week of June 24-30: There will be road work on Long Street between Humboldt Lane and Rand Avenue. No delays are expected.

On Monday, June 24, there will be utility work on Hot Springs Road between Northgate Lane and Nye Lane. No delays are expected.

To celebrate expanded operations approved by the Nevada Legislature for the state's museums, admission to the Nevada State Railroad Museum in Carson City will be free on Saturday, July 6.

Other special pricing will be in effect during the four-day Independence Day weekend as history comes to life at the museum in Carson City, Thursday through Sunday, July 4-7.
