Fundraiser for The Longest Walk 4!

Join Conway's Management and AIM Northern Nevada teaming up to present this awesome evening of music and dance. It will start out with some traditional singing, followed by a rock band, and will close with hip hop music. The majority of artists performing will be young Native Americans.

Christina Trejo and Burton Malotte will be opening up the show with a couple of honor songs and some circle dance songs. Following them will Truckee River Band, Ty Wrekz and then 89ENT.

Carson Chamber Singers featured in Nov. 1 Reno concert, Nov. 2 in Carson City

The Carson Chamber Singers, a choral group of the Carson City Symphony Association, begins its 29th season with a pair of a cappella concerts directed by Michael Langham in Reno and Carson City.

The first concert, Friday, Nov. 1, at 7:30 p.m., will be at Trinity Episcopal Church, 200 Island Ave., Reno. The program will be repeated on Saturday, Nov. 2, at 7:30 p.m., at the Brewery Arts Center Grand Ballroom, 449 W. King Street, Carson City.

Nevada Day kicks off with RE/MAX Nevada Day Balloon Launch

Dozens of hot air balloons filled the Carson City skyline Saturday morning at the annual RE/MAX Nevada Day Balloon Launch.

Balloons were launched near Carson Mall. Among the photos include those with pilot Orval Choate of Nevada City, Calif., who has been flying balloons for 30 years.

Carson City named 2013 Nevada Day Most Bearded Community in annual competition

Carson City has always had its share of bearded ones. Maybe not as many as those found in Virginia City but certainly a lot for a community. This year Nevada Day 2013 judges picked Carson City as the Most Bearded Community in Nevada. Congratulations to all those men who chose not to shave their face.

Here are some photos of the annual Governor's Nevada Day Banquet held at the Grand Sierra Resort in Reno.

The Nevada Day Governor's Banquet, led by Gov. Brian Sandoval, is held on the last Thursday of October. This year's charity recipient was Children's Cabinet of Nevada. Several from Carson City's business community attended.

The Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company dances in Minden

The Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company from Salt Lake City Utah will perform at the CVIC Hall, in Minden on November 1. The Company will also conduct a Dance Workshop for area dance students on November 2. Tickets are $25 in advance. Master Dance Class is $20 or $25 for the class and concert and reservations are required. Deadline for the Dance Workshop is October 25.

The Concert on November 1 is at 7:00 pm at the CVIC Hall, 1602 Esmeralda, Minden.

Café at Adele's hosts fourth Celebrity Chef and Harvest Dinner to benefit the Greenhouse Project

Nevada Day Parade gets its own feature song and video

One of the great things to come out of this year's Nevada Day pre-festivities is this song and video. Written, performed and produced by Daylan Rhea with the video by Jim Gustafson of Nevada Multimedia Productions in Carson City, this 2 minute, 13 second ditty is the ultimate Nevada Day Parade song.

Art competition and exhibition 'Expressions of a Cancer Journey' begins in Northern Nevada

Northern Nevadans diagnosed with cancer, as well as families, friends, caregivers and healthcare providers, are invited to the Sierra Nevada Cancer Center office in Carson City (1460 South Curry Street, Suite 100) on Saturday, Nov. 2, from noon to 4 p.m., to share their cancer journeys through art and photography, as part of Lilly Oncology on Canvas: Expressions of a Cancer Journey.

SNCC will provide canvases, brushes, paint and other art supplies, as well as beverages, refreshments, a silent auction and raffle. Artists are free to express themselves however they like.

Nevada Day weekend is a lot of things — fun, freaky, flavorful, festive and especially affordable. The RSVP Carson City statehood weekend carnival, held annually at Mills Park, is one of Nevada Day's highlights, with plenty of thrills, chills, food, games and amusement park rides.

Carson City Toyota Scion will once again host Family Night at the Carnival on Thursday, Oct. 24 from 5 to 10 p.m. All rides are $1. Tickets can be purchased at the ticket booths or at Carson City Toyota Scion.

Nevada's anniversary celebrated at old opera house in historic style

VIRGINIA CITY — Formally attired revelers got a jump on the Nevada Day festivities Saturday at the historic Piper’s Opera House, dancing the night away in period clothing that evoked the heyday of this once booming mining town.

75 and loving it: Parade Marshal Shaughnessy was in first Nevada Day Parade in 1938

Mike Shaughnessy once joked to a Rotary club that the reason politicians were put at the front of the Nevada Day Parade was that it was better to put the horses’ behinds ahead of the horses.

The quip made the Reno paper the next day and earned Shaughnessy an early morning call from then-Gov. Mike O’Callaghan, who was notorious for reading people the riot act.

Mediterranean cuisine featured at Villa Basque culinary show

Villa Basque Deli and Cafe in Carson City, known for its basque specialties, featured a fun and educational culinary show Saturday enjoyed by more than 60 local residents.

It was ''Mediterranean Diet'' day at the restaurant, hosted by Carol Paz of the popular Women to Women Nevada program, her husband Chef Don Pepe Owner of Carpa LLC and Villa Basque Deli and Cafe owners Pete and Martha Coscarart.

Western Nevada Musical Theatre Company’s Les Misérables’ cast prepares for November shows

A cast of nearly 60 performers has been selected for Western Nevada Musical Theatre Company’s first-ever production of Les Misérables in November. The theatre company will present 10 performances of the famed international hit on weekends, Nov. 8-24, at the Carson City Community Center.

Nick Favero has been cast in the lead role Jean Valjean, whose dark life as a convict is transformed by a saintly bishop after he nearly returns to prison for stealing.

Area artists work on display at the Carson City Business Resource Innovation Center

The Capital City Arts Initiative opened its exhibition, BRIC Art 4, with artwork by eight area artists at the Carson City Business Resource Innovation Center on Wednesday. The exhibition will remain at the BRIC through early September 2014.

Banjo music, gold and silver mining camp lore visited at free Carson City concert program

Step back in time for a night of music that graced mining camps for decades during the gold and silver rushes of the 1850s through the 1870s. The Gold Rush Banjo will be presented free on Friday, Oct. 25, 7:30 p.m. in the Sierra Room of the Carson City Community Center.

Doors open at 7 p.m. Seating is first come first serve. The program is an evening of stories and songs on the historical mid-19th century banjo with musician and historian Chris Bayer.
