New photo exhibit at State Museum opens tonight in time for Nevada Day celebration
The public is invited to a gathering tonight at the Nevada State Museum in Carson City for light refreshments and a chance to get a glimpse of the newest photography exhibit in the South Changing Gallery.
The reception will be from 5 to 6:30 p.m. in the concourse, followed by a lecture, "Following Frémont" by Loren Irving in the South Changing Gallery. The Museum is at 600 North Carson Street. The program launches a weekend of events at the State Museum in time for Nevada Day festivities.
Through stunning photographic imagery, Irving revisits the campsites of explorer John C. Frémont. The lecture will highlight passages from Frémont’s journals, commemorating the famous expedition of 1843-44.
The reception and program kick off Sesquicentennial celebrations at Nevada State Museum, culminating in the full exhibit: Finding Frémont: Pathfinder of the West, opening January 29, 2014 and continuing through October 2014.
Museum members and children 17 and under are free. Admission: $8.
