The "Jazz and Beyond: Carson City Music Festival" will hold a kick-off meeting for organizers and potential volunteers on Tuesday, Feb. 11, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the Carson City Chamber of Commerce Conference Room, 1200 S. More than 450 miles and one month later, she arrived in Reno with a new appreciation for pioneering travelers who shaped the state more than 150 years ago. Her stories, images and insights are the focus of “The Nevada Discovery Ride: Pioneering in the Modern Age” lecture at the Nevada State Museum in Carson City from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 23.

A robot version of a smackdown will be held Saturday in Carson City during the 2014 Northern Nevada FIRST Tech Challenge.
Teams of high school and middle school students will compete using robots they have designed to complete various maneuvers at the Donald Reynolds Technology Center on the campus of Western Nevada Community College, 2201 West College Parkway.

Youth Theatre Carson City will hold auditions for Guys and Dolls, Jr. this Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014, beginning at 10 a.m. at the Carson City Community Center.
Auditioners should come prepared to sing a one minute song and to learn a dance combination. Tuition $100. Scholarships available.
WNC offers piano lab use to youth

Professional pianist Sue Kinney teaches the classes on Friday afternoons. Beginning classes for Kindergarteners and first graders are offered from 4:30-5:20, p.m., second and third graders meet from 5:30-6:20 p.m., and fourth to sixth graders meet from 3:30-4:20 p.m.

Celebrate the Chinese New Year at Carson City's Brewery Arts Center Feb. 8. 2 p.m. with traditional Chinese dance featuring Nevada Arts Council artist Xian Na Carlson.
Xian Na Carlson began learning folk dances as a child growing up in Zhangzhou, China. From her aunt she learned the Tuan Shan, (fan dance), the Xin Jiang regional dance and Tai Ji forms.

The Brewery Arts Center, Carson City’s premiere epicenter for the arts since 1977 has partnered with the Carson Nugget as well as various vineyards and vendors to present Winter Wine and All That Jazz, an evening of wine tasting, music, dancing, a live art demonstration, silent auction and raffles.
This annual fundraiser will be held on Saturday, January 18 at the Carson Nugget from 7pm to 10pm. Tickets are $30 per person and are available for purchase at www.breweryarts.org. For more info call the Brewery Arts Center office at 775-883-1976
Auditions Tuesday for Western Nevada Theatre Company production of musical 'Chicago'

The Western Nevada Musical Theatre Company will hold auditions for the Broadway blockbuster "Chicago" on Tuesday, Jan. 14. The Broadway blockbuster won six Tony Awards and has continued to be an international hit. It will play in seven performances on weekends, May 9-18, in Carson City.
Producer and director Stephanie Arrrigotti said parts are open for six leading roles and two dance troupes. “Those auditioning for the primary dance troupe need extraordinary dance ability and well-toned bodies,” she said.
