Annual Carson City Pops Party to bring symphony, chorus favorites to Governor's Mansion
The beautiful back lawn of the Governor's Mansion is the site of the Carson City Symphony's 32nd annual Pops Party concert. The Sunday, June 12 program features the Carson City Symphony, Carson City Symphony Chorus, and guest singer Jakki Ford.
The concert will open with an a capella version of The Star Spangled Banner sung by the Carson City Symphony Chorus, directed by Michael Langham. The Symphony, directed by David Bugli, will play marches by John Philip Sousa, Hoe-down from Copland's Rodeo, music from Lord of the Dance, and more. The Carson City Symphony Chorus will sing music from Broadway shows and songs by Billy Joel.
Jakki Ford, in her third appearance at Pops Party concerts, will sing arrangements by David Bugli of The Lady is a Tramp with orchestra, and the bossa nova The Waters of March with orchestra and chorus.
Grounds open and pre-concert entertainment by Triple Treble flute trio begins at 2 p.m with the main event beginning at 3 p.m.
Seating is on the lawn; the audience is welcome to bring blankets or lawn chairs (some chairs will be provided) and food. Snacks, beverages, and raffle tickets will be on sale before and during the concert. Proceeds from sales benefit the Carson City Symphony Association's artistic and educational programs and Carson High School's instrumental music programs.
This free concert is supported, in part, with public funding through the Nevada Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts. For rain location, call the Symphony at 775-883-4154 or check the web site: CCSymphony.com.
