Mac the Naw: Northwest fishing at its finest, plus the latest reports from around Sierra

Hello fellow anglers, Just returned from a couple weeks of fishing from our local area to the Rogue River Valley in Oregon. The day we arrived, they had a wild fire that started at 200 acres and by the next day it was over 10,000. Grants pass was smokey and hard to breath, so Renee, my cousin Steve and I ventured to Brookings OR to do some salmon fishing.

Wreath ceremony for fallen Carson City law officers among events Thursday around town

Heading into Thursday, August 15, 2019 we can expect hot weather to continue with high temperatures near 100. Among events for the day, there will be a wreath remembrance ceremony for fallen Carson City law enforcement officers at the sheriff's office, a Muscle Powered morning hike, art showings, and a meeting of the Status of Women in Nevada group at the Carson Nugget. As part of the Jazz and Beyond music festival, there will be an outdoor "Woodstock Remembered" concert at Comma Coffee and a music presentation, "All About that Bass" by Scot Marshall and Friends at the Nevada State Museum.

The 34th annual Bowers Mansion Bluegrass Festival is back this weekend from Aug. 16-18 beginning with the Rattlesnake Mountain Boys kicking things off at the Davis Creek Amphitheater at 7 p.m. on Friday.

Bluegrass bands both national and local will convene at the historic mansion along with kids activities, food trucks, games, and more!

Carson City hotel, motel tax discount ends after district attorney opinion

For over a decade, Carson City hotels and motels were able to claim a two percent discount for paying their taxes early each month. However, after an opinion issued by the District Attorney’s Office stating that the discount was never approved by the Board of Supervisors, the discount will no longer be applicable.

Nevada jobs were up in July, unemployment see slight increase

CARSON CITY — July employment in Nevada was up 5,200 over the month and 43,400 over the year. The state’s unemployment rate is at 4.1 percent, up 0.1 percent point from June, and down 0.4 percent compared to last July, according to the state's Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation’s economic report released Wednesday.

Car wash Saturday at CHS to benefit Carson High Girls and Boys Soccer Program

Pre-sale is $5 a vehicle. At the car wash, it is $7 to $10 depending on the size of the vehicle. Carson High School is located at 1111 N. Saliman Road.

NDOT: Single lane closures begin Monday for Kingsbury Grade resurfacing

CARSON CITY — Single lane closures and travel delays will be in place on the Carson Valley side of Kingsbury Grade, State Route 207, beginning Aug. 19 as the Nevada Department of Transportation resurfaces the highway.
