Time to start thinking about those weekend plans, especially if they involve travel as weather changes are ahead and snow is expected in the Sierra by Saturday. As for today, enjoy the sunshine. The weather service says expect partly sunny skies and a high of 55.

Expect sunny skies today with a daytime high around 47. With all the fresh snow from the weekend, there's plenty of it piled at Lake Tahoe ski areas. Enjoy the bluebird day ahead.

Meet at thetrailhead for the Clear Creek trail, 1/2 mile west of Jacks Valley Elementary School on Jacks Valley Road, 1.8 miles from 395, Minden. Water and closed-toe shoes required. Hiking poles recommended.
Bring a friend and/or friendly dogs. All hikes are 2-4 miles with duration of about 90 minutes, sometimes with elevation gains of 500’ or more.

Missing Chihuahua near Koontz Lane
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Fri, 01/18/2019 - 11:06pmMy dog, Milo, went missing on January 17 around noon. He was last seen behind Raley's near the Mountain View Health and Rehabilitation Center.
He is a light and dark brown six year-old Chihuahua with white on his chest. He did not have a collar.

Elderly couple dead in double homicide, investigators say similarities to Douglas murders
Submitted by Kelsey Penrose on Thu, 01/17/2019 - 5:36pmUPDATE: 1/18/19 at 3:15PM: According to a story in the Reno Gazette Journal today, the elderly couple found dead in their South Reno home Wednesday have been identified by friends as Jerry and Sherri David. Jerry David was a former president of the Reno Rodeo Association.
The identities of the elderly couple still have not been released by the Washoe County Sheriff's Office, which is leading the investigation into their deaths that have been ruled homicides.

An elderly man and woman died as a result of homicide at their south Reno residence after their bodies were discovered Wednesday, the Washoe County Sheriff's Office confirmed during a press conference.

Rain will continue throughout the morning, changing to snow showers later this afternoon, which has prompted a Winter Weather Advisory for the lower valley areas such as Carson City and Carson Valley. Forecasters urge motorists not to travel into the Sierra today as several feet of heavy snow will impact roadways and travel.

With snow plow efforts underway and a warm-up from Mother Nature, it looks like the morning commute will be a slushy one. Carson City schools will operate today at normal start times. That all may change tomorrow though as a significant winter storm is expected to bring snow and rain to the valley and feet of snow to Lake Tahoe and the Sierra. Stay tuned.
