Hello Carson City as we arrive upon Tuesday, March 5, 2019. For those keeping score, we're 15 days away from the first day of spring, 108 days from summer, 232 days until Nevada Day and 296 days until we celebrate Christmas. Read on for what's happening today.

Here we find ourselves heading into Monday, March 4, 2019. Hark, is there sunshine ahead? Well, yes is the short answer. The longer one is explained by the National Weather Service, which says we are in between weather systems. Take advantage of Monday's sunny weather after the fog lifts and get out for a walk or bike ride. Changes are expected later Tuesday.

Drizzly, dreary, cool weather that has made its mark on the Carson City area so far this month may only seem like bad tidings approaching the Ides of March. But I think Leprechuans would agree: The wetter the weather, the brighter the rainbow.

This weekend calls for a celebration, because the first Saturday of March is upon us and that means the Carson City Downtown Business Association Wine Walk come rain, snow, wind or shine. And get this: Today's Wine Walk is the last one before Spring.

Not only is Friday the first day of March in this 2019 calendar year but it is also the end of the work week. And for this we say welcome to a month that brings us the Downtown Carson City Wine Walk, which is this Saturday, NCAA basketball playoffs, St. Patrick's Day celebrations and the first day of spring. The Sierra once again braces for another series of winter storms that are expected to bring several feet of snow, again, through Thursday. The hills around the Nevada state capital are alive with the sound of music and nature as the Carson City Symphony performs its 200th concert Sunday at the newly renovated Bob Boldrick Theater.

Before that, go on a treasure hunt at one of two marketplaces occurring in Carson City today, including the Flying Pig Flea Market and the Seventh Day Adventist Rummage Sale.

This Saturday is all about film appreciation around the area. The Carson City International Film Festival wraps up today inside the newly renovated Bob Boldrick Theater at the Carson City Community Center, while the Tahoe Adventure Film Festival occurs at CVIC Hall in Minden.

Surf Thru Express Car Wash is pleased to announce the opening of its newest location at 2050 Pyramid Way, Sparks. This is Surf Thru Express Car Wash’s 18th location and their third location in northern Nevada. Surf Thru Express Car Wash opened in Carson City in 2016 and in Reno the following year. In total, the three locations will employee approximately 45 people.

Welcome Carson City to our list of things to do around town as we prepare for Wednesday, Feb. 13, with an arriving storm that is set to bring rain, wind and snow showers to the Carson City region over the next few days along with several feet of snow to the Sierra.

A 30 year-old Carson City man was arrested Saturday morning at 8:50 a.m. in the 2000 block of West College Parkway for misdemeanor violation of a temporary protection order (TPO) and resisting an officer, a Carson City Sheriff's deputy reported.

A Ballroom Dance Social will be held March 1 from 6-9 p.m. at Yaple's Ballroom Dance Studio, 315 N. Carson Street in downtown Carson City.

Cost is $10 for the whole evening!

A Country Waltz Dance Workshop will be held Friday, Feb. 22 from 6-8 p.m. at Yaple's Ballroom Dance Studio, 315 N. Carson Street in downtown Carson City.

Learn the waltz and how to progress your dance steps around the room with Country waltz. If you'r learning to dance or want to get your partner to learn (who is very nervous and says that they can't dance), then Waltz is SO perfect!

Nevada Highway Patrol participated in the Joining Forces program during the month of January with a focus on speed enforcement and announces a campaign against distracted driving for February.
