Good day Carson City and welcome to Thursday, August 1, 2019. More of the same weather wise is in store today, with sunny skies and a daytime high near 90. Activities ahead include a morning hike, a meeting of the Carson City Board of Supervisors, art showings, a "Pint for Pint" blood drive at the Fox Brewpub, a coin mint party at the Nevada State Museum, outdoor music at Living the Good Life and more. Heading into the last day of the month, July 31, 2019 and we should note it has been a pretty good summer so far weather wise, without much in the way of extreme heat. But as they say here in the Silver State, wait 15 minutes and it is bound to change. On tap Wednesday, there's a preserving family history workshop hosted by the Nevada State Library and Archives, art showings, Wheeled Food Wednesday at the Brewery Arts Center and more. Enjoy.

August 8 – Marlette Lake (partial). Meet in the Highway 50 Park n Ride where we will carpool up to Spooner Lake.

The Carson Mall wants to thank all the participants who came out for its second Got Hot Wheels Race Car Race Day on Saturday. The next Hot Wheels race will be Sept. 14.

Racers brought their favorite Hot Wheels, Matchbox or similar-sized car and competed against peer racers for bragging rights and prizes. The race was on a 15-foot downhill race track and was single elimination.

The countdown to the weekend begins as we head into midweek, Wednesday, July 24, 2019 with daytime highs in the low 90s and plenty of indoor and outdoor activities. Topping the list is the Northern Nevada Development Authority's Legislative Roundup at Casino Fandango. If you want to know how this year's legislative session will affect business, be there. For those who look to the stars for the big picture, there's a multi-media hands on science day presentation at the Nevada State Museum as part of the Apollo 11 moon landing celebration; then there's Wheeled Food Wednesday at the Brewery Arts Center and lots more. Between July 22 and August 4, 2019, Nevada’s law enforcement agencies throughout the state, including the Carson City Sheriff's Office, will be Joining Forces and citing distracted drivers.

July 25, 8 am - Tahoe Rim Trail North -section beginning on north side of Hwy 50 at Spooner Summit. Meet in the Highway 50 Park n Ride where we will carpool up to the Spooner Summit trailhead.

Heading into Wednesday, July 17, 2019 and we're looking at another sunshine-filled day full of activities including Trails 4 Tails at Riverview Park, an open house at Carson City's Foreman-Roberts House Museum, Wheeled Food Wednesday at the Brewery Arts Center with a showing of "Monster's University" to follow and more. Enjoy the day.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office has continued to see an increased amount of phone scams. We want the public to remain vigilant and educated in these issues. Scammers are routinely calling people saying they have missed a court date, missed a jury summons, they have a warrant, or they owe fines.

Thursday Morning Hike

Hello Carson City and welcome to Wednesday, July 10, 2019. We're looking at plenty of sunshine, warm temperatures and an extraordinary musical lineup today at Eagle Valley Golf Course in Carson City for the 11th annual Concert Under the Stars benefit for The Greenhouse Project. There's also art showings, Wheeled Food Wednesday at the BAC and more.

Nevada authors Sandie La Nae and Special Works Historian Arline La Ferry teamed up to present their “WEIRD Carson City” volume on Saturday at Morley’s Books.

UPDATE 5:00 p.m.: Officials are now calling it a “mechanical failure.” Crews continue to search the wreckage for anyone who may be trapped. All streets within a half mile of the campus are closed. Major damage is being reported at Argenta Hall; however, they believe the building was mostly unoccupied at the time of the explosion.

UPDATE 4:00 p.m.: So far, reports of 8 people were injured and two have been transferred to the hospital. All classes for the rest of the day have been cancelled.

Water and closed-toed shoes are required. Hat and poles recommended. If it is raining, snowing, or air quality is unsafe due to smoke, hikes will be cancelled. Check www.musclepowered.org/calendar or Facebook.

July 11, 8 AM – Eagle Ridge trail, Genoa. Meet at the trailhead for the Clear Creek trail, 1/2 mile west of Jacks Valley Elementary School on Jacks Valley Road to carpool or caravan to trailhead.

Heading into Thursday, June 27, 2019, there's plenty to do and see around the Carson City area as we march toward an action-packed weekend. There's a morning Muscle Powered walk, Food Truck Thursday at Mills Park, a Farmers Market in Dayton, a discussion on climate change at Western Nevada College, a history presentation on Chinese woodcutters at the Nevada State Museum, a presentation by the NNDA Executive Director at a GOP monthly meeting, Cruise Night at Wing Stop, an information meeting on the Ross Gold Park master plan hosted by Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space. With a windy cool down headed our way, activities around the Carson City area Wednesday, June 26 will make for a breezy good time. Looking at the day ahead there's a walk hosted by parks and recreation, kids events, Wheeled Food Wednesday at the Brewery Arts Center, a free "rough cut" feature film screening at the Carson Nugget, Young Chautauquans at Dangberg Historic Park and more.

Once I heard someone say, “expectations are pre-meditated resentments.” I used to LOVE that statement. I proceeded to throw my expectations out the window and delight in what I got. Unfortunately, what I got was all over the place. It was unfocused. It was sometimes unacceptable.

Good day Carson City and welcome to the last day of spring. Today is Thursday, June 20, 2019. Instead of hot weather, Mother Nature has decided to cool things down some as we head into the weekend with highs in the low 80s today and the low 70s for the first day of summer. Events, activities and more are lined up today including the first day of the three-day police officer motorcycle challenge at Mills Park, morning walks, Cruise Night at Empire Ranch Golf Course and live music outdoors at Living the Good Life.

Thursday Morning Hike on June 20, 8am – Ash to Kings Canyon. Meet at the end of the asphalt on Ash Canyon Road to carpool to the trailhead.

Heading into Wednesday, June 12, 2019 means we are half way through the work week. Temperatures will be around the 90 mark with a chance of afternoon showers. Activities lined up include art classes, a hike designed for tots through Carson City Parks and Recreation, a Ninja aerobic class at Yaple's Ballroom and you can hear local author CW Bayer talk about three of his books on area history at Browsers Corner Book Store. The Carson High School class of 2019 said their goodbyes to teachers June 5, most of the teachers finished their grades the same day and checked out June 7, and a few remaining teachers volunteered to help with graduation Saturday.

Hello Carson City as we head into Thursday, June 6, 2019. Activities, art and entertainment abound as we get closer to the weekend. There's the kickoff of two main events, the Nevada State Fair at Mills Park and the Spring Street Vibrations at Battle Born Harley-Davidson. There's also a morning hike, art showings, an end of school year celebration with live music at Living the Good Life, and the Thursday night Cruise that begins at Vino's Pizza. Read on for more.

Time change to morning! Join us on our free leader-led hikes each week to enjoy Nevada outdoors around Carson City! Meet at the end of Ash Canyon Road to carpool to the "square pond" near the water tanks. Water and sturdy closed-toe shoes required. Hat, sunscreen and hiking poles recommended.

Is it the middle of the work week already? That's what a 3-day holiday weekend brings. Heading into Wednesday, May 29, 2019, there's a number of events around the Carson City region lined up, including Salsa dancing classes at Yaple's Ballroom, a live music show at Piper's Opera House in Virginia City (hosted by the Canvas Cafe) and a live jazz jam at Living the Good Life in Carson City.

Heading into Thursday, May 23, 2019 we ask: Can you feel it? Yes, the Memorial Day holiday is nearly here and we may even get a weather break or four in between expected showers through the weekend, forecasters say. Activities and events to round out this third Thursday of the month include a meet and greet of Carson City Library candidates at Adams Hub for Innovation, a day hike, a bicycle cruise on the west side of the capital city, a Lunch and Learn Workshop for local nonprofit organizations, a chamber luncheon focusing on mental health, a GOP meeting, art showings, live music and more.
