NDOT nearly finished with Highway 50 Clear Creek drainage project

The Nevada Department of Transportation says it is nearly finished with a $1.2 million storm drainage enhancement and water quality project that began this summer along a 4.5 mile stretch of Highway 50 from Spooner junction at South Carson Street to Tahoe Golf Club Drive.

Lake Tahoe planning agency, backcountry skiers work to address winter recreation access

The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency, El Dorado County, and members of Tahoe Backcountry Alliance announced Monday they've partnered to create a coalition of stakeholders to maintain and enhance public access for winter backcountry skiing and snowboarding around Lake Tahoe.

“We’re optimistic about this opportunity to work together to get back some of the access that we have lost in the past, and work to enhance access in the future. Let’s together reclaim and preserve backcountry access in the Tahoe Basin,” said Mike Schwartz and Todd Offenbacher, of Tahoe Backcountry Alliance.

Stewards of Stormwater storm drain marking

Meet at Regan Beach parking lot in South Lake Tahoe. Volunteers will sweep storm drains free of debris and pick up trash, install English and Spanish markers onto storm drain grates and learn about the environmental impacts of stormwater runoff. Volunteers should wear sturdy shoes for walking and comfortable clothes to kneel in. Volunteers should also bring a reusable water bottle.

Here is the Carson City area road report for the week of Sept. 7-13, 2015: Beginning Tuesday, Sept. 8, through Friday Sep. 11, Race Track Road will be closed between Bigelow Drive and Saddlehorn Road due to utility work. Saddlehorn Road will be open to local traffic only and there will be limited access during night hours. Detours will be signed.

Nevada Department of Transportation names Gaskin as deputy director

David Gaskin has been named deputy director overseeing department environmental and stormwater management programs for the Nevada Department of Transportation, officials announced Thursday.

Gaskin will work out of the Carson City headquarters and oversee NDOT environmental programs, including policy, regulatory and educational efforts to manage stormwater involving state roads and transportation facilities in accordance with state and federal laws.

Policymakers say innovative transportation plans are necessary for Lake Tahoe's future

Wildfire and invasive species weren't the only topics of this year's Lake Tahoe Summit held earlier this week. The future of transportation at the lake was also addressed with speakers affirming the need for improved roadways and access to alternative methods of transportation.

Carson City and Lake Tahoe area road report through August 23

Here is the Carson City area road report for the week of Aug. 17-23, 2015: Beginning Sunday through Thursday, August 20, crews will be re-striping pavement markings on roadways throughout the city each night from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following morning. There will be a moving traffic control at locations where the striping occurs, with minor delays expected.
