Carson City and Lake Tahoe area road report through Sept. 13
Here is the Carson City area road report for the week of Sept. 7-13, 2015: Beginning Tuesday, Sept. 8, through Friday Sep. 11, Race Track Road will be closed between Bigelow Drive and Saddlehorn Road due to utility work. Saddlehorn Road will be open to local traffic only and there will be limited access during night hours. Detours will be signed.
Beginning Tuesday, Sept. 8, through Friday Sept. 11, State Street will be closed to through traffic due to construction.
Beginning Tuesday, Sept. 8, through Friday Sept. 11, Imperial Way between Gardengate Way and Applegate Way and Gardengate Way at Imperial Way will be closed due to construction. Detours will be signed.
Crews will continue re-striping pavement markings on roadways throughout the city through Thursday, Sept. 10, each night from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following morning. There will be a moving traffic control at locations where the striping occurs, with minor delays expected.
Due to sidewalk improvements, there will be lane closures at the following locations:
— Long Street between Carson Street and Stewart Street.
— The outside northbound lane on Carson Street between Park Street and Long Street.
— Fall Street at Long Street.
— Peters Street at Long Street.
The Nevada Department of Transportation will continue construction of drainage improvements on U.S. Highway 50 West between the two truck ramps (just west of U.S. 395 to Sierra Highlands Drive). There will be lane closures Monday through Friday, but the roadway will remain open to traffic in both directions.
The East William Street shared use path project is underway, and takes place off of the street on the south side of William Street between Saliman Road and Gold Dust West Way. It will not impact traffic on William Street. However, vehicles crossing through the construction area should use caution. The path will be closed for the duration of the project and a detour is marked.
Clear Creek Avenue remains closed to through traffic between Lynette Lane and Center Drive due to utility work. Detours are signed and the JAC bus stop on Clear Creek Avenue is temporarily relocated near the intersection of Frontage Road and Clear Creek Avenue. In addition, Clear Creek Avenue will be closed between Center Drive and Snyder Avenue beginning Tuesday, Sept. 8, through Thursday, Sept. 10. The JAC bus stop on Clear Creek Avenue east of Center Drive will be temporarily relocated west of Center Drive, while the bus stop near Snyder Avenue will be temporarily closed.
Work on the construction of the Carson City Freeway continues. Please use caution in the areas around the construction site, particularly along S. Carson Street.
The following road closures are scheduled due to special events:
— On Friday, Sept. 11, Third Street will be closed between Carson Street and Curry Street from 2 p.m. to midnight.
— On Saturday, Sept. 12, Ann Street will be closed between Carson Street and Plaza Street from 4 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Along Highway 50 westbound, work continues on a $1.2 million road project to reduce erosion, preserve water quality and enhance storm drains along Highway 50 in south Carson City and west along Spooner Grade.
Plans include replacing more than 50 storm drains and drop inlets, as well as enhance roadside slopes and curb and gutter on Highway 50 from the South Carson Street at Spooner junction to Tahoe Golf Club Drive, around 4.5 miles west along Highway 50.
As the project progresses, single lane closures with minimal travel delays are to be expected on Highway 50. Motorists are asked to obey traffic controls and drive at posted construction speed limits, or slower as necessary for conditions. The project will complete this fall.
On the California side of the Sierra, the following Caltrans road projects are ongoing Monday to Sept. 12, throughout the Lake Tahoe Basin and Sierra:
State Route 89 (Placer County): Work continues on a $70.1 million project from Tahoma to the "Y" junction with State Route 28 in Tahoe City on Lake Tahoe’s West Shore that will upgrade storm water drainage and treatment systems, add curb and gutter, resurface and realign the road, add new left-turn pockets and widen shoulders on a 9-mile stretch of the highway. Completion is expected in fall 2016.
State Route 89 (El Dorado County): Work continues on a $20 million water-quality project from 0.1 mile north of the Eagle Falls Sidehill Viaduct No. 5 in Emerald Bay to the Meeks Creek Bridge in Meeks Bay. This project is adding new drainage features, curb and gutter in some locations, and resurfacing a nearly 7-mile stretch of the highway. The project will be completed this fall.
State Route 89 (El Dorado County) from 3 Ring Road to 1 Ring Road: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday through Friday for paving.
State Route 89 (El Dorado County): Work continues on an $8 million project from Meeks Creek to Wilson Avenue in Tahoma, installing curb and gutter and drainage systems to collect and treat stormwater. The highway will also be resurfaced. The project will be completed this fall.
State Route 89 (El Dorado County) from Meeks Creek to Wilson Avenue: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday and 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday for miscellaneous work.
State Route 89 (El Dorado County): Work continues on a $25 million project from the "Y" junction with U.S. Highway 50 in South Lake Tahoe to Cascade Road, north of Camp Richardson. Curb, gutter and sidewalks will be added in the 1.1-mile four-lane section, and the highway will be widened in the two-lane section to Visitor Center Road to provide 4-foot paved shoulders on each side. Drainage systems are also being built and the roadway will be resurfaced.
State Route 89 (El Dorado County) from the "Y" junction with Highway 50 to 13th Street: Northbound and southbound motorists can expect alternating lane closures from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday and 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday for curb, gutter and sidewalk work. Motorists can also expect one-way traffic control from Pope Beach Road to Cascade Road from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday through Friday for electrical work.
State Route 28 (Placer County): Work continues on Placer County’s $50 million Kings Beach Commercial Core Improvement Project from State Route 267 to Chipmunk Street. The project is installing curb and gutter, sidewalks, roundabouts, lighting and drainage systems to enhance pedestrian and bicycle mobility, improve safety and provide water-quality improvements.
State Route 28 (Placer County) from Bear/Brook Street to the junction with State Route 267: Motorists should expect shoulder closures from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday for curb, gutter and sidewalk work.
State Route 267 (Placer County): Work continues on a $5.2 million project to grind, pave and make drainage improvements to a nearly seven-mile stretch of State Route 267 from just north of Schaffer Mill Road to Brockway Summit. Completion is expected by the end of September.
State Route 267 (Placer County) from the Nevada County line to Carnelian Bay Avenue: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Tuesday through Friday for paving.
U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County) from Latrobe Road to Bass Lake Road: Westbound motorists should expect alternating lane closures and the Latrobe Road off-ramp closed from 9 p.m. Friday to 7 a.m. Saturday for K-rail installation.
State Route 49 (El Dorado County): Work continues on an $8.4 million project to repave an 11-mile section of State Route 49 from Cool to Coloma. Most of the paving will use cold-in-place recycling in which the existing pavement is ground up and reused and then an asphalt overlay is placed on top of it. Rocks have also been added to some shoulder areas for erosion control and guard rail replaced. Completion is expected this fall.
State Route 28 (Placer County) from Agatam Avenue East to Beach Avenue: Northbound motorists can expect the No. 1 lane closed and a traffic shift to the auxiliary lane from 8 p.m. Wednesday to 6:30 a.m. Thursday for sewer work.
U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County) from Apache Avenue to Country Club Drive in Meyers: Eastbound and westbound motorists can expect shoulder and auxiliary lane closures from 7 a.m. to midnight Tuesday through Thursday and 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. Friday for grinding and paving work.
U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County) from Truckee Drive to Reno Boulevard in South Lake Tahoe: Eastbound motorists can expect alternating lane closures from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. Tuesday through Friday for gas line work.
State Route 89 (Placer County) from the Truckee River Bridge near Olympic Valley to Silver Creek Campground: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control at various locations from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday for ditch cleaning.
