Carson City and Lake Tahoe area road report through August 16

Here is the Carson City area road report for the week of Aug. 10-16, 2015: Minnesota Street is now closed to through traffic between King and Second streets. The area will be used as a public space for special events.

Due to sidewalk improvements, there will be lane closures at the following locations:
— Long Street between Carson Street and Stewart Street (two-way traffic will be maintained).
— The outside northbound lane on Carson Street between Park Street and Long Street.
— Fall Street at Long Street (narrow lanes).
— Peters Street at Long Street (narrow lanes).

The Nevada Department of Transportation will continue construction of drainage improvements on U.S. Highway 50 West between the two truck ramps (just west of U.S. 395 to Sierra Highlands Drive). There will be lane closures Monday through Friday, but the roadway will remain open to traffic in both directions.

Little Lane remains closed from Janas Way to Saliman Road for a reconstruction project. The road will remain closed until project completion. Detours are marked.

The E. William Street shared use path project is underway, and takes place off of the street on the south side of William Street between Saliman Road and Gold Dust West Way. It will not impact traffic on William Street. However, vehicles crossing through the construction area should use caution. The path will be closed for the duration of the project and a detour is marked.

Clear Creek Avenue remains closed to through traffic between Lynette Lane and Center Drive due to utility work. Detours are signed and the JAC bus stop on Clear Creek Avenue is temporarily relocated near the intersection of Frontage Road and Clear Creek Avenue.

Utility work will continue Monday through Thursday with closures along Eighth Street between Curry Street and Minnesota Street, as well as Seventh Street at Minnesota Street, from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. each day. There will be flagger controlled traffic.

Work on the construction of the Carson City Freeway continues. Please use caution in the areas around the construction site, particularly along S. Carson Street.

The following impacts are expected due to utility work:
— The northbound left turn lane on Carson Street at Hot Springs Road will be closed (Monday only).
— Richard Drive will be closed to through traffic between Norrie Drive and Wagner Drive (Monday – Thursday).
— The intersection of Center Drive and Topsy Lane will temporarily become a 3-way stop to allow for truck crossings (Monday – Friday).

On Friday, August 14, Third Street will be closed between Carson Street and Curry Street from 2 p.m. to midnight for a special event.

Along Highway 50 westbound, work continues on a $1.2 million road project to reduce erosion, preserve water quality and enhance storm drains along Highway 50 in south Carson City and west along Spooner Grade.

Plans include replacing more than 50 storm drains and drop inlets, as well as enhance roadside slopes and curb and gutter on Highway 50 from the South Carson Street at Spooner junction to Tahoe Golf Club Drive, around 4.5 miles west along Highway 50.

As the project progresses, single lane closures with minimal travel delays are to be expected on Highway 50. Motorists are asked to obey traffic controls and drive at posted construction speed limits, or slower as necessary for conditions. The project will complete this fall.

On the California side of the Sierra, the following Caltrans road projects are ongoing August 9-15 around the Lake Tahoe Basin:

State Route 89 (Placer County) : Work continues on a $70.1 million project from Tahoma to the "Y" junction with State Route 28 in Tahoe City on Lake Tahoe’s West Shore that will upgrade storm water drainage and treatment systems, add curb and gutter, resurface and realign the road, add new left-turn pockets and widen shoulders on a 9-mile stretch of the highway. Completion is expected in fall 2016.

State Route 89 (El Dorado/Placer County) from Fern Street to St. Michael’s Court: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control at various locations around the clock from 10 p.m. Sunday until 10 a.m. Friday for drainage, paving and concrete work.

State Route 89 (El Dorado County): Work continues on a $20 million water-quality project from 0.1 mile north of the Eagle Falls Sidehill Viaduct No. 5 in Emerald Bay to the Meeks Creek Bridge in Meeks Bay. This project is adding new drainage features, curb and gutter in some locations, and resurfacing a nearly 7-mile stretch of the highway. Completion is expected this fall.

State Route 89 (El Dorado County) from 1 Ring Road to Bliss Memorial State Park Road: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Friday for drainage work.

State Route 89 (El Dorado County): Work continues on an $8 million project from Meeks Creek to Wilson Avenue in Tahoma, installing curb and gutter and drainage systems to collect and treat stormwater. The highway will also be resurfaced.

State Route 89 (El Dorado County) from Meeks Creek to Wilson Avenue: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control at various locations around the clock from 8 p.m. Sunday until 11 a.m. Friday for drainage work.

State Route 89 (El Dorado County): Work continues on a $25 million project from the "Y" junction with U.S. Highway 50 in South Lake Tahoe to Cascade Road, north of Camp Richardson. Curb, gutter and sidewalks will be added in the 1.1-mile four-lane section, and the highway will be widened in the two-lane section to Visitor Center Road to provide 4-foot paved shoulders on each side. Drainage systems are also being built and the roadway will be resurfaced. Completion is expected by spring 2017.

State Route 89 (El Dorado County) from the "Y" junction with Highway 50 to 13th Street: Northbound and southbound motorists can expect alternating lane closures from 9 p.m. Sunday to 7 a.m. Monday for concrete work. Northbound and southbound motorists also can expect alternating lane closures from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday from the “Y” to 10th Street for concrete work.

State Route 28 (Placer County): Work continues on Placer County’s $50 million Kings Beach Commercial Core Improvement Project from State Route 267 to Chipmunk Street. The project is installing curb and gutter, sidewalks, roundabouts, lighting and drainage systems to enhance pedestrian and bicycle mobility, improve safety and provide water-quality improvements.

State Route 267 (Placer County): Work continues on a $5.2 million project to grind, pave and make drainage improvements to a nearly seven-mile stretch of State Route 267 from just north of Schaffer Mill Road to Brockway Summit. Completion is expected by the end of September.

State Route 267 (Placer County) from the Nevada County line to Carnelian Bay Avenue: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday through Friday for pavement grinding and paving.

State Route 28 (Placer County) from the junction with State Route 89 to Macinaw Road in Tahoe City: Eastbound motorists can expect the #1 lane closed 6 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday for grinding and paving.

State Route 49 (El Dorado County) from the Amador County line to South Street in El Dorado: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control at various locations from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday for pavement grinding.

U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County) from Apache Avenue to Country Club Drive in Meyers: Motorists can expect the auxiliary lane closed from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday for grinding and paving work.

U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County) from the “Y” intersection with State Route 89 to the Upper Truckee River Bridge in South Lake Tahoe: Westbound motorists can expect the #2 lane closed from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. Sunday through Friday for gas line work.
