Douglas County Sheriff's Office: School threat identified, quickly resolved

MINDEN — On Tuesday, Oct. 29, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office quickly responded to a threat received by the “Safe Voice” call line. The threat was specific to Douglas High School faculty and students.

September casino gaming revenue down in Carson City, up 6.8 percent statewide

September gaming revenue among Carson City area casinos fell 3.95 percent compared to a year ago, while statewide gaming revenue climbed overall by 6.83 percent, according to figures released Wednesday by the Nevada Gaming Control Board.

Artists from Carson City, Minden and Gardnerville will be featured at the 25th annual Northern Nevada Artisan Show and Sale this Friday and Saturday, Nov. 1-2 in Reno.

The event’s 25th anniversary will be dedicated to the memory of Jim McCormick, UNR Art Department chair, artist, curator and one of the founders of the show. Admission is free.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of events around the Carson City region Friday through Sunday to celebrate Nevada Day. Activities include the annual parade down Carson Street, a carnival at Mills Park, the 30th annual Nevada Day Classic, The La Ka Lel Be Pow Wow at the MAC, beard and rock drilling contests, delicious food dishes, pancakes, chili and plenty of beverages to suit kids and adults of all ages.

Thursday opens the first of the four-day annual RSVP Nevada Day Carnival at Mills Park with $1 ride family night hosted by Carson City Toyota. Other activities around the capital city include a Muscle Powered afternoon hike, art showings, library activities, a gold and silver rush presentation at the Nevada State Museum and more.

Carson City deputies arrest woman for stealing car, eluding deputies, hit and run, assault with a deadly weapon, and more

— A 34-year-old transient woman was arrested in the 800 block of North Roop Street on 13 charges including grand theft auto, hit and run, eluding, and assault with a deadly weapon.

Nicole Lee Katz was arrested after deputies were dispatched to the Carson City Aquatics Center for a report of a stolen vehicle.

Obituary: Nevada outdoorsman, firefighter and artist David E. Wise

David Wise, age 82, passed away on August 29, 2019. Dave was a 2nd generation Nevadan born in Carson City on July 14, 1937 to Roy and Lynn (Stewart) Wise. He was an amazing man who loved life, he was easy going, caring, funny, loving, and always had the most positive attitude. He was always smiling, even in the end.

He was so well liked, loved by others and had so many friends who thought highly of him. He loved his family and his extended family who just simply became his family.

Telephone scam aimed at Carson Valley residents prompts warning from Douglas authorities

MINDEN, Nev. — The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is asking the public, especially our senior population, to be aware of a recent telephone scam being reported to the Sheriff’s Office. This advisement was issued in July of this year, however the Sheriff’s office is receiving reports the calls continue.
